Netscape 7 Just Died

Postby rck1 » Thu 22 Aug, 2002 7:48 am

When I opened my N7PR1 this morning I got the following error:

An error occured reading the startup configuration file. Please contact your administrator. line 38. Syntax error. unterminated string literal. usen", ev1 6.5:m3 2:635s 4.23 1f1815 3:

Now everytime I open N7PR1, I have to enter all my email setup info. Any idea how I can fix this? Help! Thanks.

A new profile will fix this.

Locate your Profile folder(hopefully you know where it is, likely in Application Data/Mozilla), and look for a "pref_js" file. Right click and open with Notepad.
See if something looks awry. Like the thirty eighth line. I, have been directed to a specific line, when I entered incorrect information, but I never had a problem like yours. I was able to Edit the info.
If everything looks ok. I pass for now.

Sorry, It's...

Postby rck1 » Thu 22 Aug, 2002 1:38 pm

no message.

Some boards require something be typed in this space and I'm used to typing nm if I have nothing else to ad. Again, thanks. I can't wait to get home to try to fix my N7pr1.

Here's a screen capture of the actual error message I receive.

Why not? If nothing obvious works, use my all-purpose fix, i.e. create a new Profile, but you will have to copy the files from the old version. Since you have set up mail enough times, do that with the new version, and then copy files. I think that there is an easier way, but it escapes me.
