outlook express ate the last 2 years worth of my emails

Postby billmorrow » Fri 22 Feb, 2008 3:55 pm

for some reason outlook express, ver 6.00.29 ate the last two years of my emails..

at first, occasionally, it would not display all of the inbox emails and going to another (one of many) inboxes and then back to the generic inbox, they would all be back..

now, suddenly, two years are just gone..

though it IS showing the emails i have received since..

FWIW, it kept asking me to compact the inbox emails which i did NOT do..

anyone have any thoughts on how to recover my emails so i can archive them..?
(i know, a little late, but i really need to recover this stuff if possible)

OH!, one more wrinkle..
the other inboxes (all with different names) are still showing all emails, some going as far back as jan-2003..

thanks..

This may be an easy one, as it is a fairly common problem.
If you do a Search for "Outlook Express Inbox lost", you will get a lot of hits. I am not a OE user, but there is an identical problem with any Mail programs.
The deleted mail is, still, associated with the Inbox, and, only compacting the folder will help recover its fully capacity. So, if you never compacted your Inbox in two years, you may find yourself with a humongous Inbox, most of which is former Trash.
What you call
other inboxes (all with different names)
, are, actually, separate folders.

DEJA VUE Lost Netscape Mail and Navigator

Postby OLE GAR » Mon 24 Mar, 2008 5:07 pm

Last evening I came in from running an errand. I had left "control panel" up on the monitor. I sat down to continue a clean-up of some old files and my computer was LockedUp! I tried various ways to get re-started and nothing I did affected the thing one bit. I then did a "slash the power" - waited 5 minutes and it would not re-boot. Although I am not an expert I have been fooling around these things for 15 years and this thing got my goat. I finally went to "Restore (F-10) and the process started. After the recovery is completed, I now have almost the exact thing I had before the "lock-up" except for my Netscape 7.2, Netscape 7.2 Mail, Netscape 9.1 Navigator, and Firefox Browser. They are all "smoke" Oh, also Internet Explorer is an old version (no tabs, etc.)

I down-loaded Netscape 7.2, and installed it onto my slave drive (G). The installation completed, the Netscape 7.2 Icon shows up on the screen but it is as DEAD as a mackerel. I re-booted and still no joy on trying to open up the Browser or Mail programs.

Just a while ago I thought I would try again and download the "Full" version. Did the deed, installed it but was foiled in hoping I would have the option to install it on my main drive. No! The option for doing that failed to show up so it re-installed on the "slave". All for naught!! It is still "DEAD". I can access files and folders from my slave with "Windows Explorer"and most other programs that are working from that drive seem to be ok.

Where all my e-mails stored and what "Mail program" is best to download and recover my lost access? HELP! :!:
