Very strange message....

Postby Castor001 » Fri 01 Aug, 2008 3:42 pm

Hi all.
I'm new to the forum and would first like to say a big hello to everyone!!!.
Been using netscape for years without a hitch, its an excellent browser compared to other certain browsers....
Anyways, its only been in the last week or so, but whenever i try to execute Netscape, a small error message pops up in the top left hand corner of the screen saying :-
"TRYING TO LOAD NON-LOCAL URI"
I cannot think for the life of me what this might mean, my main webpage is set as google and after i clear the message everthing works fine.
Its just one of those many annyoing little problems i would rather not be there
So please, if anyone has any ideas i would be most greatfull.
Many thanks !!.

Welcome to the forums, Daniel.

A Google search for your message, [ "trying to load a non-local uri" ] brought up some good hits on the first page. They point to this item; also see the links therein contained.

Your User-Agent shows that you have MegaUpload. How long have you had it, a week or so? Conclusion: That's the problem.

"I am never using file sharing software again!"
- Well: never say 'never'.
There are legitimate uses for the functionality, but one does need to apply discernment. Some are outright malicious, some are only inadvertently mischievous (read: buggy).
Suggestion: Do a web search on the name of whatever software you are considering, and read users' comments and any problem reports.
