I call it "incremental" update, as I don't allow anything to go on automatically. The update of 457 Kb went very smoothly.

Does anyone have a link for JUST THE UPDATE (not the full version)? I can't update through help/check for updates. It states "no update available". I was able to dl the full version, but as I'm using FF portable, I'd prefer just the update.

It does not appear to be easy to apply the update by itself, but take a look at:

Updating Firefox 2 manually using a MAR file when auto-update fails

and

Software Update:Manually Installing a MAR file

The update file for going from Firefox 2.0.0.16 to 2.0.0.17 may be located at adirectory at Oregon State University.

The updates appear to be in the MAR (Mozilla Archive Format) which I had never heard of before today.

Fulvio has a [sdp=93732]post[/sdp] about the portable version of Firefox and the failure of the updater to work. You should probably check this also.

This is about as far as I can go with advice or help.

Good luck!

Profman, thanks for the tips! I tried it & got a "failed 6" response in the updater log.

I don't think the auto update is a problem with Portable, I THINK that moz hasn't released .17 as a standalone auto update yet (let me know if I'm wrong on that!). I'll give it 2 more days or so, & then just install the full .17 if the update doesn't appear to become available. I know I have been able to run auto update with this install in the past.

Weird, they do have the update up. FF 2 on my xp box can see it (it's also a portable) & updated; but FF 2 on my Win 98 box can't see it......

Oh well, time for the full upgrade version on the 98 box.

My link to Portable Apps does not say that the autoupdater does does not work, but, rather that it should not be use with the app.
The purpose of the portable program is that it is used on a portable drive, such as a flash drive, and used on any computer without installation. You connect your flash drive on any compatible computer. Do your thing, and then unplug it.
Of course the Portable App can be used on your hard drive, but if the autoupdater is used, it will install the app, defeating the purpose of having a Portable App. The autoupdater works, but not the way that it is supposed with Portable Apps.
