Thunderbird and problem with links

Thunderbird and problem with links

I just transferred e-mail from Netscape 7.1 to Thunderbird
2.0.0.16 (20080708). Browser is Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1

In the transfer it was irratic, it caught all the folders, but not all the content in the folders.

I am trying to solidly use Thunderbird now however. Big problem is that in a link, url there is absolutely no activation to Firefox....or anywhere. Have been copy/pasting into Firefox.

Have read the the problems with images, I have just set an adresss book 'html access' and click them in there to fix the problem.

But really need help on this problem the link problem. :o

Verify that:
1. Firefox is the default browser:
- Tools > Options > Advanced > bottom section
2. "Set Program Actions and Defaults" is properly configured:
- As a user with Administrative authority:
- this is accessible for sure at
-- Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > left side, at bottom > Custom
- also may be accessible at
-- Start > All Programs > top portion of (left) list of programs

What Paul D listed is absolutely necessary. It works like a charm if it is done, properly.

Thank you Paul, and Fulvio for verification.
I did all the above; except #2 I could not find "Set Program Actions and Defaults", .....I did go through Control Panel, I do see Firefox from Start> All Programs...it was not at the top of the list. However at Start> on the immediate left (not through All Programs), it is there.
I still cannot connect links in Thunderbird to Firefox. I did check to see if Firefox is the default browser, and it is.

Guess I did not do it well, :(

The Custom choice is vital. It does not matter in which order the programs are. It matters if there is a tick mark at current web browser, as it is next to current mail program. It is unnecessary to select the browser or mail, by placing a check mark next to enable access.

If you don't see an icon for "Control Panel" when you click on Start (it will be in the right-half), here is how to make it appear:
- Right click on Start
- (Left) Click on Properties
- On the tab 'Start Menu', click on the button 'Customize'
- On the tab 'Advanced', the first item shown in the 'Start menu items:' panel is 'Control Panel'
- Click on the button 'Display as a link'
(And while you are in this area, review the other options and set them as you wish. I had to play around with them for some time before finally settling on what I want to see. Each person will have a different set of choices to suit him/her-self.
The selections are listed alphabetically. And one item that you can have displayed directly via Start is ... 'Set Program Access and Defaults'!)
- Click OK. --- Click Apply.

Now, your choice(s) will appear when you click on Start.

And now, you should be able to find the Control Panel, and be able to follow the directions given. Do note that 'Set Program ... ' must be done with Administrative authority.

Open links in Firefox

I had same problem on Ununtu Linux. Setting Firefox to the default browser fixed it. Thanks.
Edit>Preferences>Advanced>(go to bottom click "check now" and check on startup)

I checked if Mozilla is the default browser, and it now is. Some links from Thunderbird do connect easily. On a page that has an image however, it does not connect at all. At times once I have gotten to a linked page, and want to go from there, this is the message I get most of the time:
Firefox can't find the file at /C:/DOCUME~1/CHERYL~1/LOCALS~1/Temp/c_10153_12605_Tools_Tool+Sets.
(as an example via a Sears ad)

It is the pattern of C:/Docume~1CHERYL~1LOCALS!1/TEMP/
is what I get

Another problem is that when I attach jpg files it gives the netscape logos. The recipients say that the jpg comes out OK. But I know something is wrong.
