I was fooling around with Firefox themes and the BACK arrow stopped working (the small down arrow next to it and the backspace key work). I returned to the default theme to no avail. Can anyone help?

Is the arrow gone? I had a similar experience with Navigator9beta, which is related to FF.
My back arrow gone, after I added some icons to the top toolbar. But, I looked at View|Toolbars|Customize, and sure enough my arrow was there. So, I dragged/dropped it into the top toolbar, and then to its rightful place.
I don't have a clue what I did to make it vanish, but it could be there.
If the arrow is there, and remains grayed out, it may be another problem.
1.You set your history to 0.
2. Duh? I had a problem similar to that with Seamonkey1.1.4, and it was not messed with, so I gave it up.

To be on the safe side, uninstall Firefox, and then reinstall it. Go to the installation folder, and delete all remaining folders. I don't know if it is necessary to backup the plugins folder. Do it, just in case. The profile would be left untouched, and it will be picked on reinstalling. If the problem is still existing, you may have to create a new profile.
I had a similar problem with NS7.2. Something went awire with its profile. I was getting almost nothing in the toolbars. I gave up, and created a new profile, moving into it the original basic files, and the toolbars were back.

I did all that. Then I uninstalled (from Control Panel) AND removed all folders. I downloaded and re-installed the latest version. Guess what!
It still don't work. I'm about ready to ditch Firefox.

Did you create a new profile? I found out that 95% of the problem associated with Netscape, Mozilla, Firefox, etc. are due to the fact that people don't know that Add/Remove, etc. does not touch the profile. So, on the next reinstall you will have the same problems. Look at this thread.
It is hard to tell what you did, because you are not particularly specific.

I also have the same problem, the back arrow, forward and refresh do not work and I have to right click.

BTW, I have read the thread but I am really confused about creating a new profile.

http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/pmshortcut.html explains how to create a shortcut that will open Firefox with the Profile Manager. But that is not necessary. Right click on the Firefox desktop shortcut, and select Properties. Then type in -p to the Target (top) line, with a keyboard space before the -p. Hit Apply, and left click on the shortcut. This time it will open the Profile Manager. Select the appropriate button, like Create, and give the profile any name you like. When you are done, you will have choice of any profile you want, so try the new one. However, the problem may not be cure by a new profile. Sometimes there may be Themes or Addons which cause problem. There is an easy test for this. Go to Start|All Programs| and select Firefox(Safe Mode). This startup will disable all addons and themes.
So, tr this, first, if you have more than one Theme, or Addon. Don't bother with this if you have a vanilla profile.

After a trip to the Mac Genius Bar, firefox is no longer working properly. My bookmark toolbar does not show up at all. Also, The back arrow button is not where it use to be. When I add it from the customizable window, it won't go where it use to be, and it won't highlight to go back or forward. I'm so frustrated. I love firefox so much more than safari, but now I can't use it. Help!

Have you tried creating a new Firefox profile? or simply re-installing Firefox?

Can you do that and still keep your bookmarks? I have so many saved in my computer. I don't want to loose them.

We also share your concern on letting your Bookmarks loose on the world.

The program resides along with the other programs on your computer.
The profile, where the bookmarks are, is in a different location.
(One has to go back to Netscape 4 to contend with co-located program and data.)

If your profile is not damaged (as in you still see your bookmarks), then you will be fine. Simply reinstalling Firefox by copying the Firefox icon to your Applications Folder.

You might want to backup your Firefox profile first. (or the bookmark file).
Should be located under
[tt]~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/(alphanumerical).default/bookmarks.html[/tt]
and [tt]~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/(alphanumerical).default/bookmarkbackups[/tt] folder

[tt]~[/tt] denotes your Mac OS X user profile.
