"Add Reply" and "New Topic" Buttons in S

Postby Tham » Tue 25 Aug, 2009 1:03 pm

Seamonkey is unable to display the "Add Reply" and "New Topic"
button links in this forum. No problems in Netscape or IE.

They are on the right, just above the "Options" link.

The forum owners have just made some changes to the forum's
appearance and functionality, such as the addition of the chat window,
these two months. The above two buttons were displayable until a
few days ago.

I think it is due to some Visual Basic scripts written specifically for IE.

This reminds me of something which has plagued Seamonkey and
Mozilla since the days of Netscape 4 - occasionally entire webpages,
or parts of them, turn up blank, but display normally in IE.

I have no problems in the latest SeaMonkey...1.1.17.

I noticed you are using 1.1.16.

There is an Add-On called IE Tab, which allows you to render the page using IE's page rendering engine.

Is it possible that you yourself have an add-on installed that could be blocking them?

Try updating SeaMonkey as well, and see what happens.

Updated to 1.1.17, no difference.

The only extension I have installed is Flashblock.

Hmm, this is odd. I'm viewing the page right now, and I can see both the buttons.

I'm not sure how to approach this problem.

"In this forum
faked me out, at first but, when I click the link, I could see the desired button in both Flock2.5.2 (related to Firefox3.5.2, and Seamonkey1.1.7. Just below:

Tham,
are the buttons missing in your SM? There should be no need for IE Tab.
You may try to contact the website, but Seamonkey is not recognized by a number of sites.

Oops ! Finally found the problem.

I must have had accidentally clicked "Block Images From This Server"
in these pages a few days ago !

No wonder even the poster's avatars and other images were
all missing.

The two "missing" buttons are here in the "Page Info" actually.

Thanks, and sorry for the blunder, iJohnE and Fulvio.

Here's my question in the forum's technical section.

If you and no one else can figure out the problem, it is, usually, in the profile. One way would be to create a new profile. Since add-ons are, often, the troublemakers, a simple test is to start the program in Safemode. Firefox has a way in Start|All programs|Mozilla Firefox. In the case of Seamonkey, one can add -safe-mode after the shortcut Properties| Target path (with a keyboard space in front of the -). But not many people use add-ons in SM, and they, often are not compatible. Starting the program in Safemode disables add-ons.
