How do I resotre Firefox Bookmarks from backup .json file?

Postby zounds » Fri 20 Nov, 2009 11:49 am

I just got a new computer. Before turning off the old one, I created a .json file using the Backup feature in the Firefox bookmarks folder to save all my bookmarks. I'm trying to use this file to upload all my bookmarks onto new machine. However, there is NO 'restore' feature listed in the Firefox bookmarks folder on this machine. The menu i see is nothing like the one shown in the Help forum. Here are my menu choices in the new Firefox bookmarks folder: New Bookmark, New folder, new separator, move, properties, rename, delete. There is NOTHING here that says Restore. I tried using Import under the File menu, but after prompting me for the backup file name, Firefox does nothing. The bookmarks are nowhere to be seen. Please help me get my bookmarks from that .json file! New version of Firefox is 2.0.0.14

It sounds like the issue here is that you're using an outdated version of Firefox, which doesn't have bookmark save/restore functionality, on the new computer. Version 2.0.0.14 was discontinued quite some time ago; the newest version at the time of this writing is 3.5.5 and can be downloaded from Mozilla.com. In 3.5.5 you can import a .json file by selecting Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks -> Import and Backup.
