sea monkey v2.2 bad install

Postby LARRYB » Thu 28 Jan, 2010 7:50 pm

Just tried to install sea monkey V2.02.
I was running v 1.1.18 without a problem. Installed the new version and bam

The first time it hung up and quit responding. After getting out of it I launched it again and after it installed and booted on the screen all my emails were not displayed. Down in the corner it was telling me that it was building a profile for this address. The blue bar went 1/2 way across and then stopped.

I again uninstalled it from my hard drive, reinstalled and after it booted up only 1/2 of my address and emails were listed.

I then thought all was lost :o

I uninstalled it again, reinstalled the V1.1.18 and when booted all emails and bookmarks were present and no data was lost.

Dont think I'll try a 3rd time.....

Just a FYI

I assume you actually mean SeaMonkey 2.0.2? ;) (SM 2.2 hasn't even been released yet!)

When you installed SM 2.x, did you install it into the same location as SM 1.1.18? If you did, that will cause problems. Also, don't uninstall SM 1.1.18 before installing SM 2.0.

When re-installing SM 2.0, after having uninstalled it, you will need to delete its profile as well or you will likely encounter the same problem(s) when you try to re-install it!

SM 2.0 installs into:

C:\Program Files\Seamonkey

It's profile is installed to:

C:\Documents and Settings\ <Username>\Application Data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default where 'xxxxxxxx' is a random 8 character string.

To delete the SM 2.0 profile, delete the folder SeaMonkey and all its sub-folders, then re-install SM 2.0.

SM1.x installs into:

C\Program Files\mozilla.org\SeaMonkey

Its profile is in:

C:\Documents and Settings\ <Username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\Default\xxxxxxxx.slt where 'xxxxxxxx' is a random 8 character string.

Hope that helps!

Regards,

Dave.

I really dont now if or where it reinstalled itself. I didnt think I had the option of installing it somewhere else. You just hit the button and away it goes.

In the past years with other versions you didnt have to really think about it just let it go on it's own and everything was fine.

All I know is that I have all my info back into V1.1.18 and that's where it will stay for now.

I looked at the fixes that V2 made and I didnt see any big deals over the older version. So I guess I will just keep using V1.1.18.

Maybe a newer version will work better....

Actually, you do!

You also get the option of a standard or custom install.

All I know is that I have all my info back into V1.1.18 and that's where it will stay for now.

That's your prerogative, of course, but you have nothing to lose by trying again. If you don't like it, simply uninstall it and continue using SM 1.1.18! ;)

One thing I forgot to mention in my previous reply, was to ensure that the SeaMonkey 1.1.18 Quick Launch, as well as SeaMonkey itself, is not running when you install SM 2.x.

Dave.
