That is a bit puzzling, because the folder in which you originally had the link to https://webauth.comcast.net/auth/login? ... mcast.net/ also had other URLs!?

Yes.

LOL, you did more experimenting than I would have ever thought of! By "opening the folder" I meant clicking on it (or the + mark) to expend it and show the bookmarks (links).

While it's true that clicking on the folder I created named "Comcast", which contains the Comcast link, will immediately launch the warning box, it still pops up once or twice during a session even if the folder is minimized.

I have now talked to Comcast once by phone and twice by Live Chat and each time I explain the problem and point them to this thread for more details the first thing they say is something like: so you're having a problem with your browser setting is that right? :? Trying to get them to even consider the problem might be with Comcast is out of the question! They give me answers to questions I have not asked and tell me I'm getting the popup because I've visited suspicious sites.

I give up, I'm not talking to them anymore

I guess Comcast are more bothered about their corporate acquisition of NBC Universal than things like this!

If this was me having these issues, I'd demand to speak to someone higher up than the monkeys on front-line support
reading off their scripts. Try calling back, and demand to speak to either a supervisor or a technical manager. If a more
senior member of support staff fails or refuses to resolve the issue, threaten to switch to another internet provider.

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

Now I'm even more puzzled! I don't see any '+' symbols when I use my bookmarks (from either of the Bookmarks buttons in the browser), this is what I see:

The only place where there are any '+' symbols is in Bookmark Manager:

Are you, by any chance, using the Bookmark Manager for accessing Bookmarks, rather than either of the Bookmarks buttons in the browser (see first screen capture, above)? If so, that not really the way Bookmarks are intended to be used! ;)

I have now talked to Comcast once by phone and twice by Live Chat and each time I explain the problem and point them to this thread for more details the first thing they say is something like: so you're having a problem with your browser setting is that right? :? Tell me about it! I've experienced exactly the same closed-minded attitude that any and all problems are yours rather than the company's - and not just ISPs, either.

My previous ISP, Orange, were so bad that I changed to o2 instead. What a difference. Not only do you get to talk to someone who listens to what you're saying, they don't charge anything for any customer support, unlike most other ISPs who charge 50pence a minute! And I'm getting around 6Mb/s with o2 compared to 1.1Mb/s (which had been 2.2Mb/s for the first year, then suddenly dropped) with Orange and at a lower monthly cost!

I give up, I'm not talking to them anymore

I can understand your frustration!

I do agree with DJGM, though, that you'd have to speak to either a supervisor or a technical manager to get any further.

Regards,

Dave.

I use the Sidebar to view my bookmarks. I use them far too often everyday to use the menu from Bookmarks on the Toolbar. I have a 23" monitor may as well use it to the fullest.

I do have something to add, not sure how long it will last but before shutting down the PC last night I deleted the "Comcast" folder containing the link to Comcast and so far the warning box has not launched this morning. Before every time I opened Seamonkey that box would greet me. It's been over 3 hours now, time will tell ......

Should it reoccur I will call Comcast again, I don't want to live with this the rest of my life! LOL

Ah, now I see what you mean. I never use the sidebar for bookmarks so had completely forgotten about that! ;)

I guess it will, hopefully that's the last you will see of it.

No, it's irritating when something like that happens, specially when it shouldn't.

I don't, either. In fact, I had to look up the Help Contents to find out how to bring up the Sidebar (F9). With my Theme, I don't have +, but rather triangles, like this > to show folders.
On the Sidebar and using Manage bookmarks, the triangles are on the right, but clicking on the Bookmarks button, the triangles for each folder are on the far right. I, never paid attention to this, and gave up on the Sidebar two minutes after it became available with Netscape or Mozilla of yore.

Well into the second day and still no warning box! Image

I have never heard of anything like this ... malware in a bookmark. And it had to have been malware, no? Whatever it was it was evil, making an attempt to launch even without it being clicked on?

I'm not sure I ever put that Comcast link into that folder to be honest, it really had no business being in that folder. I have a dedicated folder for Comcast links and if I'd saved that link it would have been placed in there.

Or am I being paranoid now?

That's good news, I hope it stays that way!

I have never heard of anything like this ... malware in a bookmark. And it had to have been malware, no? Whatever it was it was evil, making an attempt to launch even without it being clicked on?

I'm not so sure it was malware otherwise it wouldn't have happened when I tried it. Although it doesn't do it now, so it's a bit of a mystery why it did when I first tried it!?

Or am I being paranoid now?

Maybe! ;)

Dave.

Would it be a good idea to install this NoScript Add On?

Some people swear by NoScript. I, personally, can do without it, as I work my way around the Web, carefully. But, I may have to eat my words, one of these days.
If you are both a bit reckless and paranoid, it would be immensely helpful[/b]

NoScript can be a bit of a nuisance. But you have been warned. Once it's been customized, it can work wonders. I use it, AdBlock, and was using Flashblock until it stopped being supported for SeaMonkey.
