I have been using NS7.2 for quite a while on one of my mail accounts. As of about two days ago, it will not show graphics on incoming mail, though it will forward that mail with graphics intact.

I downloaded 7.2 and reinstalled it (but without removing the earlier install) but nothing has changed.

I am running XP with SP2.

I don't see any reason why reinstalling, in any way, would help. And, not much of a reason why you would not be able to see incoming Images.
Possible cause: in your preferences,|privacy and security|Images|image acceptance part especially:do not load remote images in Mail and Newsgroups.

I checked that, and it was set to "Accept all images." I then unchecked it, closed Netscape, reopened it, checked Accept All Images again, closed Netscape and reopened it. No change.

All this, and my reinstall, may seem like aimless voodoo but I've found that sometimes it helps--certainly unchecking and rechecking does, at least in Outlook.

You can't compare Netscape with Outlook, in first place. In second place, it is a personal setting, most likely related to the Profile, which is not removed during the reinstall. Installing on top is, also, not recommended.
Finally, I forgot to ask you to check your setting for View|Message body as, in Mail. It should not change, but you need HTML to view images.
Also, are you unable to view any type of image from newsletter, etc?
Have you tried to sent just a simple e-mail containing an Image to yourself
(from your mail, using send link, image, etc., next to the smilies.

That was it: it was set to Simple HTML rather than Original HTML.
