2003 New Year Club NS (beta) Chat session . . .

Postby DJGM » Sat 28 Dec, 2002 7:58 am

In order to test the forthcoming new chatroom facility on the Club Netscape
website, I'm arranging a public beta test of the chatroom itself, on the first
weekend of the 2003. The timeslot, will be much the same as the recent
chat in the SillyDog701 chatroom, that I couldn't attend due to a blow
out at the local electricity sub-station, causing a long power outage.

16:00 - Sat 4th January 2003 (PST)
17:00 - Sat 4th January 2003 (MST)
18:00 - Sat 4th January 2003 (CST)
19:00 - Sat 4th January 2003 (EST)
00:00 - Sun 5th January 2003 (GMT)
09:00 - Sun 5th January 2003 (Japan)
11:00 - Sun 5th January 2003 (AEDST)
13:00 - Sun 5th January 2003 (NZ-DST)

If the time(s) are convenient for all, I'll post the URL of the (beta
test) chatroom here in this thread, closer to the time of the chat.

I would say that the first weekend is a bit too early.

I might not be available on 5th of January.
I am not crazy about yum-cha, but those guys are; beginning of year yum-cha. Don't worry about me.

No problem, if the time and date aren't convenient for all those that would
like to take part, I can always re-schedule it for another weekend. Would
the weekend of 11-12th January, at the same timeslots be any better?

BTW - What is "yum-cha" ?

Well, turns out that I have to clean the house on Sunday afternoon. In other words, not going for yum-cha.

Yum-cha is kind of Hong Kong styled food.

So, would the 4th-5th January be OK then? How about anyone else that would like to join in . . . ?

I'm back from warm Florida, although it was rather cool at times (near freezing). I did not have the chance to go to Disney or Epcot. :(

I am willing top try to drop in for any chat as long as it is not IRC based since I may not have any working IRC software that I know how to use anymore.

Well, the chat server and the Club NS chatroom can be accessed
by IRC, but I've only tested the embedded Java applet to my own
satisfaction. Once I've tested the chatroom via IRC, I may publish
the full details of where and how to get in to the chatroom via IRC.

Of course, if you haven't got any IRC software, you can always add
the Mozilla IRC client, ChatZilla, to your installation of Netscape 7.x.

Ok, . . . the chat is on, at the international times I mentioned earlier . . .

My main home sytem crashes about 95% of the time when I try to load the Chat software into Mozilla 1.2.1 or Netscape 7.00. Its not peculiar to the Chat sofware since it also crashes when loading the home page of my bank which aslo has JAVA on it. I've placed a post on the main SillyDog Netscape forum if you care to take a look at it.

I'll try to access the chat from my office machine.

Well, the chat session turned out to be be a success, even though only about 5 people turned up!

Unfortunately, I was unable to get a log of the chat session, as the IRC client I was using,
that being ChatZilla, only went back as far as about the last half hour's worth of messages.

In the meantime, thanks to all those that dropped by, hoped you all enjoyed your stay!

I'll arrange another chat soon, possibly for sometime next month . . .

I may require at least one person to log on with a 3rd party IRC client such as mIRC, so
that at least one person can capture a text log of the chat session, for future reference.
