Out of the subject of toolbars for a while, my next version will have...

The Mac OS X version of the default theme, fully ported to Windows (and I assume Linux will work too)

Actually, that's a fake reply, that server's running Apache 2.0.54. Besides, that's not my server anyway...

I got the wrong URL, d'oh. The correct one is http://kernel.ws/~puto.hosting/djgm-apple.xpi

Cheers for that . . . but how come its filesize 895KB, when the original XPI is only 142KB ?

(To prevent this thread going off-topic, could you reply to this via PM? Thanks.)

Well, I had to include the full default Firefox theme with the changes for Apple HIG compliance ^_^

By the way, I THINK that the classic theme inside that might be firescape-branded, but I'm not sure. If it is, I think you might have to replace the throbber with the default one.

Can you please resize to no wider than 550 pixels next time?

You can't give Windows users OS X theme.

Why not? It's a good theme, and everybody should have the right to use it. Just because it was made for Mac OS X, doesn't mean it can't be adapted so that other people can appreciate its wonderful interface :)

Well, I guess you did not pack the Apple HIG compliant search box for releasing.

The HIG compliant search box will be included on Firescape 0.1 Beta 3. As for the about: part... It's a bug, it should be FSVersion instead of fsVersion. Will be fixed too on Beta 3.

The Mac skin on Windows was too buggy, and I eventually had to give up on that idea. So, I will instead port elements from the Mac theme into the Windows one. As of now, the Go button, the round Google search box, and the Personal Toolbar have been ported. The DJGM.co.uk toolbar will be round on both Mac and non-Mac systems. The navigational icons had already been ported on 0.1b2.

Shouldn't the search field be rounded on Mac OS X only?

No. It looks good rounded, so I will round it on all systems.

Firespace 0.1b3

Postby Pu7o » Mon 02 Jan, 2006 1:23 pm

OK, 0.1b3 is out. The new stuff is that Calendar is now included, the search boxes are compliant with the Apple Human Interface Guidelines, and the Linux and Windows builds have some more stuff taken from the Mac theme. Also, for some strange reason, I failed to get the DJGM.co.uk toolbar on the Linux build, so Linux users get Googlebar Lite for now.

Also, the Windows version uses the Mozilla installer, and you can choose which components/extensions you actually want to install.

The download links are the following (Thanks Antony for the hosting):

:dl: Windows
:dl: Linux x86 (GTK1+XFT)
:dl: Mac OS X (v10.3.9 or higher)
UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2; en-GB; rv:1.8) Gecko/20060101 Firefox/1.5 Firescape/0.1b3 wml/1.3

Thanks for the new version. I like that it uses the Mozilla Firefox installer, and that I could choose what components/extensions to install. But I did notice that Firescape has [tt]en-GB[/tt] localizations. I installed the [tt]en-US.xpi[/tt] localization from here, and it seems to work fine, with one exception: it broke [tt]about:[/tt] and Help > About Firescape and I now get these messages.

about: wrote:XML Parsing Error: undefined entity

Edit: It also seemed to replace the Firescape branding with Mozilla Firefox branding.

The branding is changed in the localizations, and the Firescape version is also defined in the en-GB localization. If you install a Firefox localization, the branding will obviously change, and it will break [tt]Help -> About[/tt] and [tt]about:[/tt].

I don't know what the differences are between en-GB and en-US, so I decided to try en-GB and just used it. I still don't see any differences other than perhaps a word or two.

Also, a very minor bug I just remembered: Even if you don't install WMLBrowser, the useragent still includes wml/1.3. Will be fixed by the next release.
