Antony,

Yes, that is the official Release, and Mozilla finally announced the release on mozilla.org:

Official Release Post on mozilla.org:

Wednesday January 11th, 2006
Thunderbird 1.5 Released

Scott MacGregor writes: "The final release of Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5 is now available for download from getthunderbird.com. Users of RC1 should see the update soon. If you are using RC2, then you already have 1.5 final."

"Thunderbird 1.5 introduces several new features including a software update system, spell check as you type, built in phishing detector, auto save as draft, and support for deleting attachments from email messages. Message filtering has also been improved with new filter actions for replying and forwarding. Saved search folders can now search folders across multiple accounts."

Oh, well. I uninstalled 1.5rc2, and installed 1.5. Actually, it was a good idea, because I had created a separate folder for 1.5rc2. Now, I have a different one called Thunderbird1.5. And, TB1.5 works fine as the mail client of choice in Kmeleon, so I can compare 1.5 and 1.0.7, as if I needed it.
Both are good.

Ramona,

Thanks for clarifying. I was a bit confused with the built date.

As a warning...I read on MozillaZine that people are having trouble after installation due to the fact that they installed over their previous version. But if you read the installation instructions it says:

"Windows - Double click the Thunderbird Setup 1.5.exe installer to start the install."

Way farther down the release notes it says:

"All Systems - Prior to installing Thunderbird 1.5, please ensure that the directory you've chosen to install into is clean and doesn't contain any previous Thunderbird installations."

So make sure you don't install it over a previous version.

But why won't it install properly over a previous installation like you could when installing Firefox?

Thanks Sirdar,

I installed it over the previous Thunderbird I used (1.0x), and I did not experience any problems.

I am a Mac user, BTW.

Win xp home

Previous INSTALLED
TB 1.5rc in non standard location = E:\program files\TB_1.5rc

Add/Remove = Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5

Registry reference = C:\WINDOWS\UninstallThunderbird.exe /ua "1.5 (en-US)"

INSTALLED TB 1.5 Final to non standard location = E:\program files\TB_1.5_final\

Add/Remove = Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5

Registry reference = C:\WINDOWS\UninstallThunderbird.exe /ua "1.5 (en-US)"

New install (TB 1.5 Final) does not effect previous (TB 1.5rc)

HOWEVER the Add/Remove entry refers to and uninstalls the LAST 1.5 version that was installed. NO way to remove via Add/Remove the previous 1.5rc version.

I had to remove the Directory and Clean the registry to get rid of traces of the previous 1.5rc installation.

Don't know if this means anything, but just wanted to point it out to anyone that installs 1.5 final with 1.5rc installed.

Greetings,

On a Windows XP SP2 system, I installed Thunderbird 1.5 over a v1.0.7 with no ill effects. The user's profile was previously moved to a data directory on a 2nd hard disc drive. TB 1.5 picked it up without a hitch.

I hadn’t seen the recommendation to not install in the same directory as a previous version until later. They probably should place that message in a more prominent location.

Like Antony, I also installed over a previous version (1.0.7) with no ill-effects. And like others... I also did NOT see the warning until after the fact. Brilliant placement.

Just a small note:

The title says "Thunderbird 1.5 Offical...", it should be Official.
