I have been using a ver. of Netscape that I thought was 8.0 for monthes. It worked flawlessly and although I am a confirmed Firefox user, I preferred using Netscape for monitoring multiple investment accounts. I enjoyed the passcard fill and submit feature and the fact that all my logins were protected by a master password. Then yesterday I did something really stupid. When Netscape offered an update I said OK. I found myself stumbling around in ver. 8.1 dodging error prone dll's, freezes and Windows crashes. When it actually worked the passcard submit feature NEVER worked, only fill for manual login. Then today the passcard bar (or whatever they called it) disappeared. I've since removed and reinstalled every 8.x I could find and I'm here to tell you nothing works. No websites except some text. Firerfox 1.5, Netscape 7.2, Communicator 4.78 and IE6.0 all still work fine. I've used (and bought) Netscape browsers long before I ever used Mr. Softy's, but am I getting what I paid for?

I tried 'em all: 8.0, 8.0.1, 8.0.2, 8.0.3, 8.0.4 Nothing worked and/or recreated what I had before my foolish acceptance of an unproven upgrade took it away. BUT since my last post I did manage to restore 8.1 (on the fourth download) to it's glory hours of yesterday. Still no auto fill and submit and most of the features in the passcard help section refer to last years version and are nonfunctional. I guess for me this "upgrade" is a retrograde.

Literally overnight my Netscape 8.1 deleted all of my email settings and now the email manager won't add anything. Anyone know how to deal with this?

NS8.1 has no mail. How can it "delete" your settings? Which mail are you talking about? I see that you are posting with NS7.2. Can you get mail from 7.2? I will not even try to guess. So, please, give some information. Like how did you get mail from 8.1, etc.?

You should check the settings of 8.1. I have found all NS8.x to be a pain in the neck, but I would hardly call any upgrade retrograde. With the exception of the sometimes pitiful AntiSpyware, NS8.1 has no major difference from the earlier builds. If something did not work before, it is not going to be fixed if you use the same profile, or create a profile based on a program which gave problems before.
I, intensely, dislike, NS8.1, and I keep it only as a point of reference to people's question, but it has been tamed long time ago, and it works.

NS8.1 has no mail. How can it "delete" your settings? Which mail are you talking about? I see that you are posting with NS7.2. Can you get mail from 7.2? I will not even try to guess. So, please, give some information. Like how did you get mail from 8.1, etc.?

There is a box on one of the task/tool bars for setting up email via the web-based, e.g. hotmail, earthlink, gmail. It asks for id and pw, and then notifies you if you have mail, and gets it for you when you open the box.

I had it set up for gmail, netscape mail, hotmail, etc.

My regular email still comes thru a 7.2 feature that I can trigger with 8.1 9thanks to Silly Dog).

I did not, quite, get an answer, but you seem to imply that the settings you had entered for the Webmails are gone. Like you had the Webmails working, and then it was not.
I have never seen anything like that, but it indicate that some file of your profile are corrupted. I would try with one type of account, and see if it holds up, at least from one day to the next. I have gone through all updates of NS8.x, and, I have had NS8.1, and I can get Yahoo and Netscape webmails.
