Add a page to my website that is hidden to the public

Postby amanda » Fri 17 Feb, 2006 10:17 am

Hello,

I am hoping to get some help with an issue. I need to add a new page to my website that is not available to everyone viewing the site. I essentially want people to be able to type in a specific web address and be directic to a private page. How do I go about doing this without adding a link to my nav or a button on any of the pages??

Thank you!!! :?

Just don't put the link in public, and only give your friend the private link?

OR add password protection?

Not giving out the link usually doesn't do it anymore -- search engines can see all these days. Google was able to find a site of mine to which I never gave out the link within a week of setting it up.

You can add password-protection using .htaccess and .htpasswd files (this method usually requires an Apache server to work). There's a good guide available on how to do this that I followed in password-protecting my site.

Of course, this assumes that you can upload files to the site you're running.
