Accelerator use with netscape

Postby momof5 » Thu 02 Mar, 2006 8:36 am

Hey all. I am new at this and i am sick of IE. I am thinling of switching to either mozilla or netscape. After reading alll the info on this site they seem to be the same so which download is more recomended. netscape 8.1 or 7? Also i have slow dialup so i have proxyconn accelerator installed do you know if this will accelerate netscape? guess i'll check with proxyconn on that one aswell. Are accelerators even recomended?
Any help would be great. Oh and if i download Netsacpe or Mozilla can they be easily removed if i decide it is not for me?

If I'm not mistaken, the way Proxyconn works is from a program independant of IE or Netscape, so yes, it should work fine.

Mozilla in its current form has been discontinued, so I wouldn't recommend you start using that only to find out that your only grounds for upgrade are to Seamonkey (which is a continuation of Mozilla).

Netscape 7 is outdated to begin with, but 8.1 (in my opinion) is too bloated for common use.

Firefox is a good browser that's as easy to use as IE (and has some more functionality and security than IE as well). Firefox will automatically import your settings, bookmarks, and such from Internet Explorer, so all you need to do is install it.

A friend of mine does not want to spend much, but he is sticking with dialup, but he spends an additional $3 for an accelerator. He says that there is a noticeable difference, but, it will depend on your browsing habits.
I remember an evaluation for a car of the early 1990's. It says that it gave an illusion of speed. This accelerators do the same.
I spent quite a bit in 1999 for an accelerator program, and it convinced me to get cable, instead.
But, the new programs seem to do something, at least sometimes.
The comments from Don are very valid, but, don't forget to uninstall the old Netscape, before you test any other suite (like mozilla or Seamonkey). You can always uninstall, and then reinstall, if you don't like the results ( so keep the download file). The program will be pick up the same profile. The other option is to create a different profile.
