how can we make multiple CD images for 1 disk with Toast ?

Postby s_kalb » Tue 28 Feb, 2006 6:52 pm

How can I create ONE disk which will make appear for example a normal audio CD AND a little bonus CD on the desktop ?
(I have the words Multiple Sessions in mind, something to do with it ?)

I thought Toast could do this but I couldn't figure out how... I have the last version.

You're thinking of what's known as an Enhanced CD, which has a data track and multiple audio tracks.

Though this looks like it may be outdated (specifically because it references Adaptec Toast, even though Adaptec spun off its multimedia division as Roxio eons ago), Burning CD-ROMs with Adaptec Toast may be your best bet. If the directions have changed considerably with the new version, then try looking for an "Enhanced CD" option.

Thanks Don, I just realised it's called Enhanced CD. :-)

To record an Enhanced Audio CD with Toast (based on version 6):
  1. In the Audio tab, click the Disc Settings button (or the disc title).
    The Disc Settings drawer opens.
  2. In the Disc Settings drawer, click Advanced, then select the Enhanced Audio CD option.
  3. For the audio portion of the Enhanced CD, add audio tracks to the Audio content area.
  4. Click the Data tab.
  5. For the data portion of the Enhanced CD, add files or folders to the Data content area.
  6. Click the red Record button.
  7. When prompted, insert a disc into the currently selected recorder.

thanks, this did the trick. I thought Enhanced CD was with options for sound effects, like fading and such :P

any chance we can do this for 2 or more data CDs ? I don't think so, but it would've been handy for a few burnings I planned to do.

anyway, I know about the Enhanced CD now, that is very helpful, thank you.

I am a bit lost here, what kind of data CD do you want to make more than one copy?

erm.. yes, it's hard to explain too !

first, what I meant with 'data' is files and folders. not a specific audio CD or a readable DivX movie.

What I want is to make my computer mount different CDs (e.g. "Game Disk 1", "Game Disk 2" and "Game Disk 3") all at once by inserting just one CD in the CD tray. (yes I know for memory matters I'd probably need a DVD instead of a CD but that's not the point)

do you think there is a way to have several CDs mounted for one CD inserted ? how ? is Toast able to do that ?

To tell the truth, I've never heard of any way of writing multiple data tracks to a CD or DVD... and at that, even if you could, there's the chance that only one would be mounted at a time.

Your best bet might be to rip ISO images of those three CDs and put them on your hard drive (or on a DVD, maybe) and then mount those images (which I believe OS X can do natively). The problem there is that whatever game you're using might be hard-wired to look for physical media in the drive it was installed from instead of allowing the user to specify where the CD contents are.

One method I can think off is that you include multiple of Disk Images in one CD, then after inserting CD, you can open those Disk Images all at once.
However, it's a bit complicated, and not automatic.

I knew those already

maybe I'm a little maniac but it bugs me to open something that's already have been opened (in this case: opening a Disc image from a Disc). it's like installing an installer, that'd be nonsense.

too bad, no automounting. maybe there's some trick to fool the computer to *think* he has more than 1 CD, but I was looking for an "official" way.

thanks folks
