8.1 Netscape "Go" Button Missing

Postby tango » Tue 07 Mar, 2006 3:10 pm

Recently my computer was upgraded to Netscape 8.1, but I cannot find the "go" button needed to access different addresses. I am just your basic user and my computer expertise is limited. I am hoping some of you might be able to steer me in the right direction and give me some clues as to what I need to change, enable, disable, etc.

Thanks so much for you input.

The "Go" button is a pointless unnecessary extra button introduced by Microsoft in IE5.0.
When you've entered a web address, just press Enter, and your browser will go there.

If Netscape 8.1 is anything like previous Netscape Browser 8.0.x releases, the Go button should be attached to the Location bar. If not, go to View > Toolbars > Customize, and drag the Go button onto the Navigation toolbar. Or you could do as DJGM said, and just press the Enter key after typing a URL into the location bar.

It may depend on the Theme. I am using the Aluminum Alloy theme, and there is Go loud and clear to the right of the URL bar. If you use the Winscape Theme, there is no Go button. I think that the Fusion Theme is available as an Option. It does have the button. you can check Tools|Themes and select the preferred Theme. Restart the browser (not the computer), and you should have your button. Anything is better than Winscape!

But why have the "Go" button on a browser UI at all? It's more pointless than a pencil with no lead!

As for the Winscape theme ... there's nowt wrong with it. At least it allows Netscape 8.x to resemble
a web browser! Unlike eyesores such as Fusion, and that awful Aluminium theme from Ns8.0 Beta!

That page simply refers to help regarding the use of the "Go" on the Mozilla Wiki. It has absolutely nothing to do with the Go button on Netscape 8, or any other web browser for that matter.

Yes, I am aware of that, but I believe that the"Go" button in NS/Moz works somewhat the same way. Its behvour is dependent on what OTHER settings you have enabled. (Keywords - default search engines - domain guessing and such.)

Sorry if I was missleading.

Apparently the NS8 folks intentionally hide the GO button in Winscape for 8.1 (it was in previous versions).

However, there is a version of Winscape with a GO button as standard, its called Winscape Primal T-Top. It's just Winscape 8.1, but with the icons from the 8.0.4 version. (they were all redesigned for 8.1). You'll find a copy here

It also allows you to toggle the Main Menu into the titlebar, but that can take getting used to at first......
