Netscape 7.0 Cannot connect to server

Postby garyo » Fri 10 Mar, 2006 2:43 pm

I have 2 computers with Netscape 7.0 installed on both. I am running Windows Xp on both Everything has worked perfectly regarding my e-mail on both systems for over a year. All of a sudden today I was unable to receive e-mail on my one computer. I have checked all the Netscape settings and both systems have IDENTICAL settings, but I still get the message "Could not connect to server 127.0.0.1 the connection was refused" on one of the computers. Any advice would greatly be appreciated!!! Thank you in advance.

Does the one which gives you the server message have Norton AV or some such software installed recently. The server 127.0.0.1 message indicates that the mail is not going directly from your ISP server to your Netscape.
If you have enabled antivirus scanning of mail, it will go through Norton first, and the results will be confusing at best. It may not be only Norton, but something in your server settings. ain't there the way it was, originally, set up. So, think about possible changes. If you are scanning mail, you don't need to. Disable the feature.

I am not running Norton. I do have McAfee but it is not scanning e-mails. I unistalled Netscape, downloaded it again and reinstalled but it is doing the same thing. Fine on one computer and "Could not connect to server 127.0.0.1 on the other

Maybe you should try uninstalling Netscape 7.0 and installing 7.2, this could be an old bug that could be fixed on a more recent release of Netscape/Mozilla.

McAfee may cause the same response as Norton. It is important to see if there were any changes from the time that incoming mail worked, and now.
Server 127.0.0.1 is also called localhost, and I am using it only to get webmail, using freePOPs, otherwise a long reference may help you www.sfsu.edu/~helpdesk/access/commercial-isp.htmto diagnose your problem.
I would recommend to upgrade Netscape7.0, even away from Netscape, altogether, since even the most version has bugs or vulnerabilities. But, I can't see how the problem would appear all in a sudden. Something must have changed. Does one computer have a firewall, different from the other computer, if any? Are proxy settings used? Or, is one computer located in a different physical spot?
