Postby littlehubba » Sat 18 Mar, 2006 6:29 pm

Hi
I am in need of some help.Soon after i got my computer netscape crashed and when i tried to open it again it said theat the profile was in use and that i would have to create another one, this was fine and i created another one and have been using that ever since with my bookmarks, settings, etc.. in the new profile i created, but yesterday netscape crashed and i had to revert to the original user, so i have lost all my bookmarks and settings, etc... Is earched the net and everywhere i go it tells me to go to:
C:\Documents and Settings\"user"\Application Data\Netscape\NSB\Profiles
But once i go to my folder (C:\Documents and Settings\Michael) The Application Data folder doesnt exist. Can anyone please help me with my problem?
Thanks heaps
Michael

I, always, look at your User Agent, to tell me which OS is being used, but it is good that you confirmed it. So, you must not know of a WinXP "feature".

NOTE: These files are hidden by default.
To see hidden files:
1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
2. Click the View tab
3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders
4. Disable "Hide File Extensions for Known Files."
5. Click OK.

You will see application Data, and everything else from now on. If you have a back up you will find the profile. You may have two folders, one of which is the old one. But, I, rather not speculate.

Honestly, I am not sure, since you are using an older version even if it would behave like 8.1, I am not so sure.
You should have in the Profile folder, at least two folders of the type abcde.name. The abcde may contain numbers, and the name should be default, for the old one. I have never had a situation like this, so you will have to tell me what you have. I know that both folders have a different abcde. What about the new folder, is it default, also? If one is called default, and the other is not, you should be able to bring up the profile manager.
You can go to the Start|Run| find path, probably:"C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape Browser\netscape.exe", then type -profile-manager, with a space , after the .exe, like this: "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape Browser\netscape.exe" -profile-manager
What is it doing? There is a Tools|Options|Profiles in 8.1, but I don't know about 8.0.3.3.
