I hope that it is an oversight. I would never use a browser which has no link to mail.

Phoenix, Deer Park, and now Bon Echo. What esoteric codename are they going to come up with next? :)

Out of curiosity, I naturally had to try this thing out. So far, it doesn't look too different from Firefox 1.5. Who knows what may happen between now and the final release, though.

The most obvious change is the button for the new "Places" window. I really like having a usable History window again...in fact, that was really the only Netscape 4-7/suite feature I've missed in Mozilla Firefox.

On the other hand, the close tab control has been moved from the right edge of the screen to a multiplicity of individual buttons on each tab, making it easy to close a tab by mistake if you're clumsy with the mouse. Definitely one of my least favorite "features" from the Camino/Safari school of browsers.

It can always be patched in on an unofficial build, I guess...

well, 2.0 used to be codenamed "the ocho" but was suddenly renamed to bon echo. but how about some of these names: pescadero, santa cruz, lucia, oceana, naples, glendale, indio, three kings, royal oak, one tree hill, greenlane, mission bay, whangamata, rose and crown, and strippenkaart.

The Ocho is for the trunk, I think.

"The Ocho" name was dropped altogether. Trunk builds (currently Gecko 1.9a1) are branded as "Deer Park."

the ocho was the original codename for 2.0, as you can tell from the old roadmap.

Andrew, this thread at the MozillaZine Forums may be of some help.

Going back to the lack of access to Mail, I just read the "bug", and I agree that the Read Mail, etc. was useless, but a link to a mail client, any mail client is needed. Maybe as an external application link, like in K-meleon.
But, they really intend to have a browser which nothing but a browser, with no links to the rest of the world, I have a lot of other choices.

Frankly I've never used the Mail button in Firefox anyway. Early on I simply made an icon for Thunderbird and dragged it onto my Quick Launch. That way when I want to check my mail I just click on it and it zips me over. As for mail notification, that is provided as long as I have TB open and in the background. Really... I don't see what the fuss of a lack of a mail button is all about. So... I'm willing to learn. Enlighten me. :)

Ok. You make a point. The Mail button is not necessary. But it is a lot simpler to click on a button on a toolbar, than double clicking on an icon in the taskbar or quick launch. In Win XP they are well hidden. There is a limit of three icons visible in the Quick Launch. Why the extra work? If I had no choice, I would do, but I have a choice.
As for mail notification, I could care less about it. But, it is a matter of habit.
For some people the lack of mail notification is devastating. To me, I never paid any attention to it. And, why would I be concerned about extra click?
I have arthritis, and I am set up to single click whenever I ca,
Anyway, I said enough about this matter.

Fulvio: I agree that a mail button to your default mailer (or other mailer) in your browser would be reasonable and convenient .

As to the Quick Launch bar, I normally alter the location and size of this toolbar so that seven or so icons are visible at all times. The other twenty or so quick launch icons are available via a single click on a ">>" symbol on the quick launch toolbar. I normally place the quick launch toolbar just to the right of the "start" button.

Alteration of the Quick Launch bar just involves "unlocking" the Windows Taskbar, readjusting the margins and location of the quick launch toolbar and then re-locking the Taskbar.

Huh? Double-click? I don't have to double-click the TB icon on my Quick Launch tray. It's just a simply click and wham-bam...there I am. It couldn't be simpler. :)
