Update

Hi,

Have updated my theme some more lately.

Now all the toolbar buttons have a pressed look when you click on them.
Reduced the space between the Favorites Feeds and History buttons in
the panel so it matches IE7.
Changed the status bar slightly to match the final release of IE7.
Also the now the phising icon in the status bar opens the new Fraud site
preference window.
Have done a lot changes to the menu.ini file to match all the menus in IE7
as closely as possible.

P.S. Doesn't anyone talk here anymore?

Hello, blinky

I usually read what you say if that's any consolation. I think you have to bear something in mind: most (not all) here are Firefox, Seamonkey and Safari fans with a scattering of Opera users. I myself have Opera but rarely use it since I love Firefox. So, a relatively small number of persons would read your posts for that reason. Secondly, very few would want their skin to resemble anything from Microsoft, including IE7. I would imagine that many of us do have IE7 for updating purposes and just out of curiosity, but again... I rarely use it and I suspect that is the case with most. Thus you have a sort of double whammy against your posts: you're using Opera as your default browser and you're making it resemble IE. In short... it just doesn't stir much interest.

That's my best guess as to why for months no one has bothered to comment. What is the point? You're happy with your browser so that's all that really matters. As for how it looks and what changes you've made, this is more informational and doesn't really require a comment. I only commented because you asked why no one was "talking".

All the best.

Indeed, Opera is a very good browser, so I don't know why anyone would want it's GUI to look as fugly as IE7.

Having said that, it's interesting to see the Mac version of Opera 9.x dressed up as IE7. To be honest, it does
seem to look ironically better on Mac OS X than it does on Windows XP. Eitherway, it still looks crap though!

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

Each to their own

Postby blinkybill » Mon 30 Oct, 2006 12:23 am

Hi DJGM & James,

Personally I like the look of IE 7 as I think both Firefox and Opera (standard skin) both look crappy. But that is my personal opinion and I am happy to look at what people feel looks good to them without any criticism. I have used all 3 browsers and found good things about them all but Opera is the one that suits my needs best.
I did this skin for my own interest and I usually get about 3 - 4 emails a week asking about this skin. But its about customising Opera or how you have it looking, so it shows just how customisable and great Opera really is.

Update

Postby blinkybill » Tue 27 Mar, 2007 8:28 pm

Hi,

Have done some updating since my last post. Both the tabs and phising filter icon in the status now both have animations in them as IE7. Revamped the status bar using a combination of the address bar and progress bar to mimic IE7. Redid some of the icons and changed the look of the manage transfers, contacts, bookmarks and notes windows.

Hi

Well... I was sort of being facetious, Bill. Sorry. Hey, I'm glad you enjoy your IE 7 skin in Opera and quite frankly, you've tweaked it to the point that it does look pretty cool. I'm more or less like you in that I mess around with Firefox skins and am constantly looking for one that satisfies me. I've settled on Blue Ice for the moment. In Opera I use Tango since it has a clean look to it. I've messed a bit with the IE 7 skin for Firefox but just never took to it.

Anyway, it appears you really enjoy your IE skin. You sure have stuck with it a long time. :)

Hi James,

Well thats what this forum is really about it ...."How your Opera looks" and honestly I enjoy skinning even though I am not really an expert such as the great "Tomu" on the Opera forums. I also have used tango on Opera but with most skins I have always been left wanting more. So thats why I have stuck this skin as I have taken everything that is great
about Opera and added it to an IE7 look along with some other extra addons. I have never been that fussed on Firefox, but I did see a IE7 style skin called myFirefox skin which is reasonably close to the look of it. Yeah been awhile since I have started it but as some things in IE7 are hard to copy or implement into Opera it is a slow process (eg: animations in the skin have only started working properly thus I was able to implement the animated gifs in the tabs and phising filter).

Anyway mate take care

cheers

Hi Opera-is-GREAT,

It would be good if you could show us a pic of your skin.

Here is mine

Lately I have been changing and adding things to the menus in the skin.

Skinning Opera

Postby maldrac » Mon 10 Dec, 2007 2:41 am

Now if you can make a skin to make it look more like Safari I'd be interested, but IE?... The world has gone crazy I tells ya! Time to get out more and experience the world it is full of such wonderful things and none of them are from Microsoft

Hi maldrac,

Well actually I have travelled around more than half of this world and
I have seen many wonderous things but the Safari Browser is not one
of those things which stood out to me when I saw it.
But mate each to their own and its How Does Your Opera Look forum here.
If you prefer Safari then thats fine and I am happy for you, but personally I
find it a quite bland looking browser as do I find the default Opera skin.

Probaly I'm one of a minority, I like the browser itself to be bland as you call it, all the tacky colors (no offence to those who like them) distract you from what the browser is really for, which is looking at a few billion different peoples idea of what the web should look like. For me browsers like Safari give a clear definition of where the developers content starts, and at the same time providing an ergonomic interface, bright coulors above the text I find a lil distracting. Plain and simple above and dazzling content, that's for me.... Hold on... am I talking about browsers or girls... Ahhhgg I'm confused

I must get round to doing some searching for skins for my Opera, so I can show you all how wonderful mine looks with a Safari theme

Hi maldrac,

Hi maldrac,

Well as I said in my last post each to their own and if you like Safari
then I am happy that you do. If your interested in Opera skins here
is a good place to start.

P.S. Here is a quick preview of a Opera skin called Almost Like Leopard
which with a bit of skin editing you could get this quite close to Safari.
