In some Australian states that observe Daylight Saving Time, there's an extra week in 2006. This means that the clocks will be set back to standard time on 2nd April 2006 instead of 26th March 2006.

To adjust your operating system's time correctly...

Mac OS X 10.4
Install Mac OS X 10.4.5 Update or later. This contains updated Daylight Saving Time rules that maintain the proper time automatically.

Mac OS X 10.3.9 or earlier
You can select a different time zone, or set the time manually.

I have no idea if Microsoft offers a similar adjustment for the extra week of daylight saving in 2006, but one Windows 2000 Pro machine adjusted to the wrong time I noticed.

Windows has had built-in clock correction for Daylight Savings Time since Windows 95/NT3.x. As for whether it will compensate for the extra week, if it's a product of adjusting to DST (that is, the extra week is created by the extra hour, not by government mandate or something like that), then it will work.

2000 and higher have the ability to synchronize the system clock with a time server, for example, [tt]time.nist.gov[/tt] in the U.S through the Internet Time tab on Date/Time Properties:

To my understanding, the time synchronising is to sync the "reference time" (e.g. GMT or UTC time), and I believe the adjustment to local time with correct Daylight Savings adjustment is another issue.

Mac OS X has time-syncing feature built-in.

I will check if Windows shows up correct extra Daylight Saving in another computer.

You are correct in guessing that a Windows Time server will distribute time in the GMT timezone. The client station will apply the proper offset. However, Windows and many other operating systems will automatically adjust yout clock for daylight savings.

As I said before, though, if this extra week is a natural thing, then it will most likely work; if it's a government-mandated thing, it most likely won't.

I tested in two Windows XP SP2 machines... both were set to correct timezone and have Daylight saving adjust on and auto-synced. Microsoft - the world's biggest software company - does not offer correct times for states that observe Daylight Saving Time in Australia.

It looks like you didn't see Microsoft's Australian Daylight Savings Changes for Microsoft Products for the Year 2006, which was issued over three weeks ago, and was probably available via Windows Update or the Automatic Updates system (I can't be sure since I don't live in Australia).
