Yahoo Widgets

Postby James » Fri 23 Jun, 2006 10:50 pm

I'm curious about these little programs. I can see the advantage to a "few" of them (i.e. Telephone book would be handy since I'm always fumbling to look up numbers). The questions I have are:

- how much drag would they put on one's system? (if a person only installed a few)
- do they constitute spyware?
- how easy are they to remove from the computer?

Thanks.

Yahoo widgets are based on what used to be Konfabulator, and in my experience, Konfabulator didn't put a whole lot of drain on my system. That was with six or seven widgets open, I might add. Konfabulator was easy to uninstall, and the bulk of its leftover files were all conveniently located within My Documents (and could safely be deleted later).

I'm not entirely sure if Yahoo's incarnation of Konfabulator is any more or less resource-intensive, and just as well I'm not entirely sure what it bundles with it (there's a good chance you'd see a Yahoo! toolbar or some similar extras).

Not much strain on the system, but a lot of memory use. I haven't used Yahoo Widgets, but Konfabulator had each widget running as a seperate process.

To me, I can't see the difference between Konfabulator and Yahoo! Widget escept different logo and naming.

I paid for Konfabulator before it was bought by Yahoo!, before it was available for Windows.
