Sony to use AAC format

Postby Antony » Wed 10 May, 2006 11:11 pm

According to asahi.com, Sony's upcoming music management software - Sonic Stage CP - will be compatible with AAC data compression technology used by Apple as well as Microsoft's WMA.

Sonic Stage CP will be available free from 25th May. The software is compatible with hard-disk types of Walkman A series products. Sony's latest strategy is taken as an open acknowledgement that it can no longer ignore iPod's dominant lead.

According to the report, Apple's iPod has 52 percent of Japan's digital portable music player market; Sony's market share is 15 percent and Matsushita (Panasonic) has 7 percent.
