I have had no problem with my aim.com accounts, which use the same username and password as 2netscape.net.
In first place the server settings to
receive mail do not need to be any more secure than any other account. The server is
imap.aim.com which is automatically using port 143. The username is
yourusername, and security settings are set on
never.
To send, I am using my Thunderbird settings which are a bit different from Netscape's, but very user friendly. You want to go to your Outgoing servers, and Add a new server, if you have not done it. Same
yourusername, server:
smtp.aim.com.
In the security and authorization part make sure that there is a check mark next to:
use username and password".
Use secure connection:No.
Netscape does not have this clearcut choice, and you will have to got to your Advanced server settings under the specific account to select that you want to use the AIM smtp.
So, don't do any more than necessary. All you need to do is to authenticate the sender. You are, automatically, authenticating the incoming mail. The only difference is that you will be asked for the username and password, twice. One to receive, and one to send.
