Firefox ... 200+ million downloads . . . !

Postby DJGM » Wed 02 Aug, 2006 12:27 am

200million+ Firefoxes on the loose . . . !

Reports are coming in that just over 200 million Firefoxes are now roaming wild and free on the internet
since 9th November 2004. All of Redmond's sharpest Fox Catchers have dismally failed to capture any
of the Firefoxes at large. The deadly Trident Monster of Redmond, although still the dominant force
on the worldwide interweb, is gradually being brought to it's knees by the ongoing onslaught
from the many millions (or Mozillions) of Firefoxes currently running wild.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eitherway, I'm sure most SD701 members would agree that 200 million public downloads of what was originally a side
project by a few Mozilla.org volunteers, is an absolutely incredible acheivement. Congratualtions and kudos to all
those involved in fighting the good fight against the evil and slightly vicious Trident Monster of Redmond.

Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

[sdt=9621]80 million downloads[/sdt] (15 Aug, 2005)
[sdt=9857]90 million downloads[/sdt] (21 Sept, 2005)

[sdt=10094]100 million downloads[/sdt] (20 Oct, 2005)

Congratulations to Firefox.

I guess you guys won't like my comment below...
Apple launched European iTunes Music Store in the UK, France and Germany in June 2004, and recently sold [sdt=11807]200 million[/sdt] songs in European stores. In worldwide, Apple sold more than [sdt=10820]1 billion songs[/sdt].
Comparing songs in iTunes Music Store to Firefox browser... songs are not free, and only available to selected platforms and in select countries only. Firefox is free, available to more platforms then iTunes as well as to the countries do not have iTunes Music Store.
To conclude, people are willing to buy songs then download free browsers. ;-)

That's because you buy in bulk. Occasionally you buy a single song, but most of the time you buy the entire CD. (At least, that's how I do it.)

To me and my friends, we don't buy album often from iTunes Music Store. Usually we just buy the songs we like.

Sure, but you still buy more than one song. If you count the number of accounts that bought music on iTMS instead of the number of purchased songs, you might have a more comparable number.

Not buying the entire album is just as bad as blocking ads. It would no longer be how the artist intended it to be, in other words, destroying CD layout :arrow: unethical.

iTunes users, don't be like cheap b*st*rds who steal music and not buy the entire album. You do the artist and our beloved Apple a big favor by buying more songs.

(Yes, I had to. I just had to. :lol: )

I, usually, buy entire albums plus songs from other albums. The thirty seconds clip do not tell much, but, I often buy a recent album, plus "hits" from older albums by the same artist. And, I burned a 79'59" CD, if i can. I don't think that I am cheating the artist. The recording industry has quite a few Best of albums, out there. Is the artist being cheated?
But, going back to the Firefox downloads. What does it really mean to have 200 million downloads. I have FF1.0.8, and 1.5.0.5 on my computer (I am not counting 2.0b1 and 3.0a1).
I have gotten every update which came out. How many did I contribute to the 200 million downloads? Do the incremental updates count?
I have always wondered. How many people are using Firefox, even a single one) every day?

Can we get this thread back on topic. It's supposed to be about 200+ million Firefox downloads, not iTunes . . . !
