The "Hello, this is me . . ." Thread

Postby DJGM » Mon 13 Dec, 2004 10:16 pm

Since the SillyDog701 Message Centre is regularly getting new members joining in the friendly discussions, I decided
it would be a good idea to start this thread whereby new members who've joined us recently, could say hello, tell us
all as much or as little about themselves as they like. So then, existing SillyDog701 members and moderators like
myself and others, can bid them welcome to our very own technical community centre!

So, if you've joined us in the last few days/weeks/months (Delete where applicable!) feel free to use this thread to
tell us a bit about yourself, what you like do, where in the world you come from, what you do for a living, etc . . .

OK all you SD701 newbies out there . . . it's over to you!

I think I will start a brief introduction about myself, even thought I am not new here.
In fact, I am the administrator of SillyDog701.

I am a fan of Desperate Housewives and Will&Grace. I am a Mac user, and I love my iPod :-)

To know more about me, you can read my blog AntBlog701.

I hope everybody can enjoy using SillyDog701.

Not sure if you are doing this just to get your way or something, but there are already posts from members in the other topic, your choice.

Hi there!

I'm new here, registered last August 31, 2005. I'm from the Philippines and very happy to find SD701. I've learned a lot from reading all your posts!

I'm also a new mac user and I can't bear to be away from my iBook even for a short time... Aside from that, I like to watch movies, read books and play badminton.

Nice meeting you all! :)

Here's as much information as you'll ever get out of me:

 I'm a moderator at the SillyDog701 Message Centre.

 I like Science Fiction TV shows, movies and books (Star Trek DS9 and BattleStar Galactica would be among my favourites)

 I'm from Perth, Australia

 I have an incredibly comfortable leather office chair

 I enjoy drinking Pepsi Max

 My favourite games on the PC would include Sid Meier's Pirates! (2004 remake), Wing Commander 3, Starcraft and Hitman 2.

As I said earlier, that's about as much information as I'll give out about myself. :)

In no specific order . . .

 I run a tech help website, HardwareHacks 2000

 I have been posting here at SD701 for a little over a year now.

 I am knowledgeable in HTML and CSS. I can do extremely basic programming in PHP, Visual BASIC, and JavaScript.

 I develop some software, the flagship of which is developer with help from people here at this Message Centre.

 While I do not like every aspect of it, I use Windows XP and believe it to be a powerful operating system provided you know how to get it just so.

 I am a player of The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy games, usually under PC emulators like Nemu64 and ZSNES.

 I help out with the HOLYCOW Project, an in-the-works search engine. When it launches, I will be responsible along with its owner, Ronnie, for its visual presentation.

Since I started this thread (ages ago) I might as well add a bit of info about myself . . .

 While my internet name is DJGM, my real name is in the left column.

 I come from a town called Whitefield, which is about six miles to
the north west of the city centre of Manchester, England, UK . . .

 I'm 30 years of age. Almost 31 in fact. And I don't feel old. Yet!

 I've been a moderator here at the SD701 Message Centre for
a little over three years now, and been a member even longer!

 I like various different types of music, but not rap or metal.
Rap is far too foul mouthed, and metal ain't music, it's noise!

 Aside from using the internet, I like getting out and about.

 I'm a part time Apple Mac user
 I'm a part time Windows user
 I'm a part time Linux user
 I'm a full time geek . . . !

Now, let's take this thread to the next level. Anyone care to show us all photo or two?
Let's see what you all look like! I think I've got at least one pic of myself somewhere
on the internet . . . give us a moment, I'll go and see if I can find one of 'em . . .

Ahh, found one . . . probably not my best, but it'll do . . . here it is . . .

Image

(I'd certainly taken my ugly pills that day!)

Ok, folks . . . back to you!

I have a photo of myself, but I won't post it here. It's not at all suitable for posting on this message board. If you send me a private message I might just give you the URL to the picture. :P

Greg, for some reason your photo isn't appearing for me. I can see Antony's but not yours.

Me?

*Retired educator living in the Pacific NW (we have a view of the Pacific from our deck as well as the Coastal Mts)
*Very happily remarried
*Children are married and spread out as far as Barcelona and Ottawa
*Love to travel (we're off to Hawaii at week's end)
*Classical, Latino and some jazz are my usual favorites (although my wife is introducing me to the world of Hawaiian music)
*Our Eastern Orthodox Faith is an important part of our lives
*Tend to jump between FF/TB and Opera for my browser/email

That's about it.

Picture? Not sure how to go about doing this since html is OFF. How can I post an image without using html code? (i.e. <img src=...>??

James,

You can use the [tt][img][/tt] tags for inserting images onto the forum.
Here is an example of using [tt][img][/tt] tags to insert an image in BBCode.

Code: Select all

Meanwhile, here is a very limited amount of information about myself:
  • My name is Billy.
  • I have a not-so-interesting weblog.
  • I am a student.
  • I have two working computers, one running Windows 98 SE and one running Windows XP Home.

khimkhoykhi,

Welcome to SD701!

I'm a Moderator on the Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox Forum. Nothing earth shaking about me, but I do enjoy helping users with their browsers, and any other issue where I can help.

My favorite past time is spending time with my two terrific Grandsons, ages 11½ and 8. Here is an older photo of me and my youngest, wearing Grandpa's old yard shoes:
