Could someone please advise me on the current situation with Adware/Spyware on Macs runing OS X.

Also can you recommend any software (free if possible) that can detect, remove and prevent adware/spyware. Some one suggested getting siftware from http://macscan.securemac.com/ what does people think?

Does Norton not deal with adware/spyware for Macs?

You don't need that yet.

It's a good idea to start early, even if you're only clearing out tracking cookies at first.

At the moment, the majority of malware makers out there are still aiming their malicious code at the still most
dominant OS platform, that being Windows. You have very little to worry about, as Mac OS X remains free
from problems related to spyware, viruses, and other types of malicious code and hacking attacks.

The only recent examples of malware for Mac have been "proof of concept". These were mostly harmless,
and at least one of these, like most Mac OS X executables that need to access the main system folders,
required users to enter their admin password before it could actually do anything it was created to do.

Thanks to all those who replied, great to know Macs running OS X still pretty safe.

I have bought MacScan anyway and run it, came up with nothing so I am happy.
