I wish someone would remove the bloody backspace goes backpages on browsers, honestly why is it needed as a function.

What exactly is the problem you're having with Backspace?

Firefox and Seamonkey's key accelerators are mostly based on interpreted code, rather than compiled code, so it'd be plenty easy to turn that off if you know what you're doing. Here's the specific function that handles the Backspace key's actions; I'd bet if you change BrowserBack(); to something else, you could disable it.

It has been implemented that way for ages.

Assuming your input point is not in any text field or form, Backspace is for back a page and spacebar is for page down. Convenient way for people not to keep one of their hands on the mouse. (spacebar is the largest key in the keyboard.)

I never knew the effect of either of these keys in browsers, so I guess this feature has never bothered me. Perhaps I'll give them a try.

The spacebar for scrolling down a page is very handy (easy to hit) when both of my hands are busy at times. And I am really surprised that not many people know this handy shortcut.

(Just to make things clear, the cursor should not be in any form, or input box for the spacebar to work.)

I don't understand the problem. I am happy that the spacebar does what it does, if I want to see things way down, and the backspace is ok, for what it does.

im not saying the spacebar is a problem, in fact I think that using the spacebar to scroll is a perfectly good idea, the backspace key feature just really annoys me, and i wish they would make this optional. This is not a vital feature and in my opinion should be optional. Its one of the reasons I used to use Netscape over Internet Explorer as they did not include the backspace feature for many years.

I think that backspace was remapped for IE compatability reasons in FF 1.0, so the first version of Netscape it turned up in was 8.0.

I also dislike it, a good solution is to use Keyconfig and remap it to null. (Tools --> Keyconfig after installing)
