How to UPGRADE Firefox (1.0.7 to 2.0)?

Postby mujilakama » Sun 26 Nov, 2006 6:56 pm

The other day I had a post regarding Netscape problem. I have since then deleted Netscape from my computer – I plan to use just Firefox (1.0.7) which I already had installed on my computer.

My question: I want to upgrade to Firefox 2.0. Do I simply download and install it? (I don’t want to have both 1.0.7. and 2.0.) Will the installation of 2.0 on top of 1.0.,7 (into the same directory) cause a problem? (Or do I need to install 2.0 into its own directory – and then later I would uninstall the 1.0.7?)

(I happened to I come across this page: http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/7172uninstall.html
and so I am worried that I may cause a problem for myself if I am not careful.)

I am just a HIGH BEGINNER, so that is why I am not yet too clear on these matters. (I have Windows XP.)

Thank you for any advice you can offer.

Yes, it should work even with an obsolete Firefox build already on your PC. When I installed a Release Candidate of FF 2.0, I installed it on top of the 1.5.0.7 build I had, and it worked fine. :)

With the older FF, I would uninstall it using Windows Add/Remove and then install FF 2.0. You will not lose any data (mail, bookmarks, etc.) and a clean install always seems to work best. Better safe than sorry.

Regardles of the way which one uses, the link given applies to Netscape, and not to Firefox.
The problem with NS7.1 was that the GRE folder, found in Common Files, may have not been removed even by the uninstall process. There is no such problem in Firefox.

[Edit by profman: changed "B" to "G." Hopefully, this is what was intended. 11/28/2006]
