AIM.Com email password stopped working

Postby IteUrsi » Tue 21 Nov, 2006 9:01 pm

I have a number of aim.com e-mail accounts, and I am getting an error message that one of the accounts can't log into the imap.aim.com server. Of course, it would be the one that is the account that I use to send mail from all of the other accounts.

All of the other accounts are logging in fine.

I keep getting the enter password box, but when I put the password in, it won't log on. I've even successfully changed the password, but I still can't get on. This happened to me before when I had netscape.net accounts - I lost access to 3 of them for about 3 years. Any suggestions on how to get my account access back? Thanks.

Did you check the place where it shows passwords (in this Firefox version it is in Tools|Options|Security|Show passwords, and deleted the entry for that account, if you saved it, before creating another password? The entry should be aol.com. Delete it what was save, and then try again.

Just tried your suggestion, and I'm still locked out of the account. I deleted the password in password manager, then changed it at aim.com, and I still can't log in. I'm stumped...

I used the same password which I had for @netscape.net for years (as well as the same username), for @aim.com and @aol.com, and have had no problem setting up both accounts in Thunderbird, as IMAP. Needless to say, I can go to either website, and get my mail there. It could have not been smoother. But, I have heard of people having problems. Since everything has been going smoothly, I am, also, stumped. But, I never had to make any changes.
In your original e-mail you said something about sending mail. There also, I set up to use both usernames, using authentication, in Thunderbird, and port 587.

Just wanted to give an update. Logged into my e-mail account via aol.com's web page, and suddenly, it's accepting my password via Thunderbird again. Go figure...

In all fairness, I had done the following. Sensing that @netscape.net mail had the days counted, I signed up for two @aim.com accounts, at the aim.com website, almost one year ago. I must have been reading their minds, because the two accounts had the same username/passwords as the @netscape.net accounts. So, it was never any effort to set up the accounts in TB, since they already existed. However, I opened one of the two accounts @aol.com, directly in TB. Again, with the same username/password as @aim.com, but without going to the website. This tells me that the accounts can be either or both @aim.com, and @aol.com, and that when one was already set up at one of the website, the other one was just waiting to be entered at a mail client. So, both of us did it correctly, although in different ways, and there was no automatic flipping over from netscape.net to aim.com.
