Goodbye iPod; hello Zune!

Postby Happy Dude » Mon 17 Nov, 2008 5:27 am

OK, so I'm joking about the Zune :) . But I said goodbye to my iPod Classic 80GB today - and will say hi to a new iPod (probably the same model) in 7-8 days. :D

I sent my troublesome iPod back on warranty, 4 days before it expired (couldn't find the receipt - ONLY to find out I didn't need it :x ) but after talking with an Indian... with a strong accent, ugh... they said they would replace my iPod, even though there was only 4 days warranty left :D

My iPod's HDD was dying, usually it would freeze and by the time I rebooted it, its music was gone. Oh well, here comes a new iPod

Well, some Authorised Service Providers would insist on seeing a copy of the receipt, although they can easily check the serial number against the database.

Back in 2005, my 4th generation clickwheel iPod suddenly stopped working. (related [sdt=10184]forum thread[/sdt], blog entry) It was replaced under warranty, and lucky that I bought the AppleCare Protection Plan for it.
I then sold the replaced iPod, and lived without an iPod for a while.

They asked if I wanted to extend the warranty (for an extra $89AUD) but I turned it down, 'cause there will be new iPod's the time I replace mine (I would still have my iPod Nano, 1st Gen, 2GB) if it wasn't stolen :(

Got my iPod back yesterday, and I'm very dissapointed with Apple's "service", if you can call it that. :x

They said it was working fine and that it met their working specifications or some BS.

They didn't take notice of:
- the loud, clicking HDD
- the constant playing and pausing
- the freezing

What did they do?
Install a firmware that is two revisions old.

That Zune is looking good now. Shame on you Apple.

Did you describe your problem to Apple? and does the returned iPod work?

Yes and no (it's the same iPod...)

They sent me a pretty pointless letter, saying it meets Apple's specifications "for performance, usability and/or functionality" and troubleshooting stuff (resetting the iPod, reinstalling firmware, charging the battery and so forth. I'll upload a copy later.

Thumbs down to Apple.
