Mozilla Firefox Gran Paradiso Alpha 1 is out

Postby J-M » Fri 08 Dec, 2006 6:20 pm

From the Release Notes document:

Gran Paradiso Alpha 1 is an early developer milestone for the next major version of Firefox that is being built on top of the next generation of Mozilla's layout engine, Gecko 1.9.

Related to remarkable old OS versions the document states:

# Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows ME are no longer supported platforms
# OS X 10.2 is no longer supported, and OS X 10.3.9 or higher is recommended

Thanks.

Then the answer is no. I don't rush to the latest bleeding-edge or cutting-edge applications from Mozilla.

A warning: This is incredibly unstable; a lot more than trunk nightlies usually are!

I wonder if somebody at Mozilla.org got around to merging the Win64 patches into Gran Paradiso's source.

I did not know about the code name. Otherwise, I have been using the unzipped file, updated it daily, since day 1 and found it to be remarkably stable. Yesterday, the incremental update failed, but I downloaded the full file.. Yesterday, also, I had a couple of request for certificates, which were suspicious.
Like anything new extentions (addons) don't work too well, but Mr Tech Local Install is a big help. No, I never install any version until they hit the Final stage.

The codename information has been confirmed here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Fi ... ersion_3.0

The Wikipedia document says that "Gran Paradiso" is the name of a national park in Italy. (link available too)

What sort of problem are you facing. So far, GranParadiso has been very reliable.

I noticed following layout error:

for comparison (in Firefox 2.0):

And sometimes I have problem inputting text into the text field.

From my experience, it flickers a lot. (The webpages seen to blink or something)

Did you move out the GranParadiso from its DMG when testing?

It is worth of mentioning that there are some UserAgent strings posted here already (link is working until the new page appears to thread).

You can find '3.0a1' type user agents posted by Pu7o, Antony in this thread too.

I tried Gran Paradiso Alpha 1 again on my Mac with the latest shipping version of Mac OS X (v.10.4.8), and I did not experience any flick.
