yet another mail problem with 7.1

Postby dhobs » Wed 29 Jan, 2003 6:15 pm

i had 4.7 which came on the startup disc for verizon dsl, after upgrading to 7.1 i am no longer able to use the verizon mail as the default mail application, which i really do need. i don't want to change my address, been using my old one for about two years. netscapes mail works fine ,but if i use the verizon (in the mail and newsgroups) it won't send or recieve. talked to the people at verizon and ran some checks, nothing wrong on their end. done the "preference" thing no luck. any suggestions, comments, would be appreciated, thanks

Well, check Netscape 4.7's setting.
Make sure you have correct incoming and outgoing server settings, including port number.

Welcome to SillyDog.

Check your e-mail server settings and ports. I know someone who also has Verizon DSL, and their SMTP (outbound) mail server requires authentication before sending e-mail.

In your Outgoing (SMTP) Server settings (from the Edit menu: Mail and Newsgroup Account Settings), make sure the server name is correct, that the box next to "Use name and password" is checked, and place the username in the field below that.

Hope this helps.
