About RSS feeds

Postby Fulvio » Wed 03 Jan, 2007 10:06 pm

I can subscribe to RSS feeds in Firefox with incredible ease, but how do I unsubacribe?
I subscribe to a faulty feed which gives today's info, regardless of the day selected. Also, is there a why to limit the number of feeds? Some feeds clean themselves up, but other feeds do not. I have one feed, which is weekly, and I have a list which goes back to the first week of 2006.

Fulvio-

I use MyYahoo! for RSS, so that everything is web based. I originally had PLUCK, which downloaded stuff to my harddrive whether I wanted it or not. If I did not attend to it, it would just keep filling up megabytes of storage.

I am not sure how RSS works through a browser like FF, but I do not want anything forcing me to attend to what is basically news.

I have four different MyYahoo! identities so that I can organize my RSS: general news; technical news; my company; the Wall Street Journal.

I have not seen usage statistics in quite some time; but the last time I saw them, MyYahoo! had about 50% of the users of RSS feeds.

Loading feeds is a bit clumsy, too many steps. But, in the end it is worth it.

I have two kinds of RSS feeds. Those which work, and open in Live Bookmarks in FF2.0.01, and those which don't work, although I can get podcasts of them. I contacted the radio station which issue them, and deleted the Feed. It is an all or none operation. I can't remove specific days. I select Edit|Delete with the feed highlighted, and it is gone from my bookmarks. Any other way was equally unsuccessful.

Yes, it is that all or none problem that made me leave Pluck on RSS.

I do not do any podcasts, they are, again, forced on you. But, I do get a number of things that are available as podcasts but also as downloads, from my local NPR station. I can go to the site and see what was done in the past few days, and then download an mp3 of just what I want. I have a lot of that.

If you want to see an example, go to wnyc.org, click on Leonard Lopate, or SoundCheck. Also, you can look at "Speaking of Faith" at http://speakingoffaith.publicradio.org/ also has both podcast and mp3 download. So, I get just what I want.

If I did podcast with lopate or SoundCheck, you know, I would get it ALL.

You can look at the programs that interest you and see if they have mp3 downloads.

I am very happy with MyYahoo! for RSS and with mp3 downloads for "radio"

I found out that it was a restricted RSS. In other words, it led me to a podcast, where I can drag and drop on my desktop the mp3 file, but could not get anything in MyYahoo or anywhere else. In general, I have been able to get such files because the link was sent to me. In this case, the sender, who is my son, and he has a program on Michigan Radio has not figured out how to do it. It is that simple. He will learn.
In the meantime, I am doing things my way, and that's quite simple.
