Mail vs Netscape and problems with emails

Postby Papa Dot » Wed 03 Jan, 2007 5:07 pm

I just updated my old G4 from Mac OS9 to OSX (10.4.8) and tried to use Apple's MAIL program. The set up went just fine, except I was unable to get any of my previous email folders to be imported from my old Netscape 7.02. I also tried exporting them from 7.02 and still couldn't get MAIL to see the exported files.

I then downloaded Netscape 7.2 and was able to set up accounts but then I attempted to download all my old email files and have been unable to do so.

When I go to the import pull down under tools, it only allows me to choose Communicator 4 and not the Netscape browser 7.02 I was uising. Even when I choose the Communicator 4 option it does not allow me to see or even open my old email files which need to be imported into Netscape 7.2.

I have been all over the Netscape web site and nothing addresses this issue.

Can anyone explain to me or direct me as to how I can accomplish this? Either in Mail or Netscape or both.

Thanks, your help is appreciated!

Were you able to import mails from Netscape Communicator to Netscape 7.2's Mail?
Netscape's Mail should allow you to do so, as long as you still have the email on your Mac.

Do you have Netscape 7.2 or 7.02 installed correctly with emails in it?

Then, try using (Mac OS X's) Mail.app to import your emails.

Mail vs Netscape and problems with emails

1. Were you able to import mails from Netscape Communicator to Netscape 7.2's Mail?

2. Netscape's Mail should allow you to do so, as long as you still have the email on your Mac.

3. Do you have Netscape 7.2 or 7.02 installed correctly with emails in it?

4. Then, try using (Mac OS X's) Mail.app to import your emails.

5. I have been all over the Netscape web site and nothing addresses this issue.

1. Short answer, no. Net Comm would not funtion under the import dropdown and see the files I wanted to move over. I then went directly to Netscape 7.02 and exported the email files out. Net Comm could still not see these files.
2. My email files are still there on my harddrive and are usable under Netscape 7.02 (using Mac OS 9.2)
3. I have both. 7.02 for OS 9 and 7.2 for OSX
4. Mac Mail will not import anything and that is why I downloaded Netscape 7.2 as I thought for sure Netscape 7.2 could "see" their own files from 7.02.

Thanks for your trying. Hope someone can figure this out and give me an answer.

I have two internal hard drives. One used for OS 9 and the other for OSX. I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem but thought I should mention it. In case it did, I also imported my email files from 7.02 and put them in the OSX hard drive. That didn't help either.
