MacWorld 2007 . . .

Postby Mandrake » Tue 09 Jan, 2007 10:01 pm

Am I the only one that thought MacWorld 2007 was a bit disappointing?

We already knew about AppleTV, and the iPhone is cool... but it's only one product. We didn't get to see anything of the new "top secret" features in Leopard, or any new revisions to any of the Macs, not even a demonstration of iLife '07.

A widescreen video iPod without the phone, and containing a hard drive would have been awesome, and surely something I'd consider buying.

Seconded, but keep in mind there are still three more days in the expo for something to happen. I'd like to imagine that they would have rolled out the cool tech on day one, though.

Am I the only one that wasn't that "wow"ed by the iPhone's design? I mean, the finger-navigation is an interesting concept and all, but I'm used to doing that with my handheld anyway, since I always lose the stylus, and my v60i still seems more.. well, phone-like, rather than brick-like. On top of that we've already had portable and expandable operating systems running on devices like the BlackBerry for the the greater part of seven years now, so I really don't see how exactly Apple reinvented the cellular industry like they're claiming.

I thought that MacWorld was supposed to be about the Mac!

iPhone is like "Mac OS X" built-in.
Apple TV is an extend of Apple's Front Row... that's Mac. (unlike Microsoft's Media Centre or whatever it's called.)

What are missing are... the yearly update of iLife and iWork. Which is good, as those software won't have such so short lifespan now. (Same applies Mac OS X).

Most of us would've watched Steve Jobs' MWSF 2007 Keynotes in streaming format. If you'd like to keep a copy of the Keynotes, in the past you'd need to figure out a way to capture streamed video. This year, the Keynote is available in video Podcast format through iTunes Store and it's free. Please be aware, it's 1.21 GB to download.

The CES keynote this year was streaming from Microsoft's servers. I screencapped it out of Windows Media Player using Fraps (the output file was around 10GB IIRC) and then recompressed it with Windows Media Encoder. I'd wager the same process should work for QuickTime.

It seems to me, it's better to start a new thread on this CES and/or Fraps/Windows Media Player thing.

Actually I was trying to explain one way to capture streamed video, so people don't need to "figure out a way" by themselves. I used the CES keynote and Fraps/WMP/WME thing as an example.
