Netscape Email Authentication Problems

Postby Papa Dot » Tue 16 Jan, 2007 3:26 pm

I set up my account(s) in Netscape 7.2 I thought correctly.

If fact, I set up three email accounts through Verizon (my ISP).

One account works just fine and I can send messages, but the other two won't let me send.

I get the following message: "An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.7.1 authentication is required to send mail as xxx@verizon.net. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again."

I can see from my preferences that all three accounts are set up the same except the email name is diffenent in each as it should be. All three accounts can download emails but two can't send. The "outgoing.verizon.net" reads exactly the same in all three accounts as I understand it should.

I don't know where to fiind the authentication data, thereby allowing me to compare the set up data to verify all three are set up correctly.

Can anyone tell me how to find either the authentication data so I can compare each account or tell how to just get it all to work.

Thank you very much. :)

You need to set up SMTPs for each address, and select it in your Server settings.
It is a clumsy way to do it, but it worked for me. I had a list of SMTPs all identical, and the top one was the default SMTP, and the others followed. I have no idea how I figured out, but it worked.
