'Failed' Junk Controls on Thunderbird 1.5.0.9

Postby Mike of Sheffield » Sun 28 Jan, 2007 7:45 pm

I have discovered an unexpected problem with Junk Mail Controls in Thunderbird 1.5.0.9. I've been using these for quite some time with good success rates (a few missed junk mails but virtually no false positives).

Suddenly (a few days ago) the controls are not stopping ANY junk at all. I haven't altered any settings in the Junk Control, and on checking it my settings are as per the recommendations on the help page.

I've been diligently marking all junk using the toolbar button, and even double-checking by marking all non junk as such via the right-click menu. But still every duff email is shown with a green marker.

Has anyone any ideas?? BTW I am running Win XP SP1 on a Toshiba laptop. Never had a problem like this while using Thunderbird - about 8 months or so.

I don't have that problem, since my ISP has excellent Junk Controls, and, if I see anything, I forward it to them, and, manually, select that it is Junk. My selection is to go to Trash, so I have little to worry about it. However, some two to three years ago, I got the same problem as yours, in Netscape7.x. My recollection is not so good, butm in first place I deleted the Junk.msf file, I had, already, made sure that there was not a thing in the Junk folder, and then compacted the folder. I don't think that I had to do anything else.
