I messed around with the taskbar.

I think that it is all iTunes' fault! The first time that start my computer after the iTunes snafu, I noticed that the Quick Launch icons were gone. I just got back three of them after I right clicked the taskbar|Quick Launch. Then, things got out of control. I try dragging the thingy in front of the toolbar, and I ended up with a double width taskbar. Everything was there, but I wanted to revert to the single toolbar. So, I messed around, until I got the single toolbar, but now the Quick Launch was no longer next to the Start button. Things were reversed, and to make things worse, I cannot see the taskbar when a program is open. A bit of a nuisance , but would anyone know if I stand a chance to go back to normal.

LOL... sorry, Fulvio, I couldn't help it. You want to return to "normal"? Fulvio, you'll never be able to return to that state since you are constantly fooling around (as you put it) with your settings. See... I don't have these issues because I'm afraid to mess around with my computer. When it's working well, my attitude is: why mess with it? Anyway, I hope you find a way back but I doubt you will remain that way for long. :P

I am usually able to fix things with the Quick Launch Toolbar by working at it with the method below. Experimenting with this method should teach you how to change things more to your liking, although YMMV.

1. Unlock your TaskBar

2. The boundaries of the Quick Launch bar now appear as vertical dashes.

3. You should be able to left click and hold on these dashed lines and see a double headed horizontal arrow which indicates that you can move these boundaries around the TaskBar.

4. You should be able to actually "invert" the TaskBar which changes where and how it appears.

Good luck!

1.The Taskbar was never locked
2. I did not mess with my settings, the new iTunes update was the source of problems.
3.I got everything, and that was only the location of the Quick Launch toolbar, and the minimized link to the opened page, or whatever it is called. I was able to accomplish the reversal, just as Don described (but honestly, I did it before seeing the post.
4. I am not sure what is normal, since I have recollection of what I did. Is the Tasker supposed to be "hidden" when a program is in use, and it is maximized. I, just don't remember.
5. James, if you have no suggestion, please keep your opinions to yourself. I never made a change in settings, when something odd happened. You know, well, that to use a computer can lead to many problems, just using the mouse.
I have had this computer for nearly four years, and the first problem happened when I tried to update to SP3. That problem was solved. It happened to others.
The second problem happened after iTunes failed to update, and it rolled back to the previous version. Many others had the same problem.

James, you cannot lighten the situation when odd things pop up, and one wastes hours trying to fix things.
FYI, everything is back to normal, for now, at least. I have fought tooth and nail with the Quicktime update, but, I think I won. But, in the meantime, it messed up a number of settings, while being one of the sloppiest programs I ever saw. Imagine, 22 installation files! No wonder that the new installation file was getting confused.

Well... Fulvio... we tend to see life a little differently. While I can appreciate that your "issue" is somewhat frustrating for you, in the greater scheme of things, it's relatively irrelevant. Have you two daughters both in precancerous conditions? I have. That is a situation that is difficult at best to "lighten up" but even that can be put in its proper perspective. I'm sorry that you appear to have so many difficulties with your computer... particularly this latest problem. But ultimately you get things "back to normal" and life goes on... right? For some, life does "not" go on. These are situations that are far more difficult with which to cope than a task bar that isn't cooperating. Nevertheless, I appreciate that your task bar was misbehaving and I'm glad it's back to normal. I'll refrain from commenting in the future. Have a good day.
