Well, my Motorola router cost me less than $40. I made sure to get a Linux-capable router so that I can make it do $229+ worth of other neat stuff.

In regards to your Guest Networking feature, the DD-WRT distro that I run on my router has been able to handle broadcasting 16 SSIDs off the same wireless interface, instead of just one. It also runs on newer dual-band 802.11n hardware like yours, not just old hardware like my 802.11g one.

Well, you forgot the easy configuration and neat integration of it. Most importantly, the beautiful design.

You can't judge an item simply by its price tag. Also, $229 is in Australian Dollar, it is only $179 USD.

Indeed. The fact that it can't run other software would've put me off from buying it, even if it cost less than the Motorola one I have. (That's even the case with some really inexpensive Marvell/ARM-based ones.)

Brother MFC-8890DW, a multi-function laser printer.
A (colour) scanner, (mono) copier, (mono) laser printer, fax machine with two very important features: built-in a wireless connectivity (on top of regular ethernet networking, USB and backward support Parallels ports) and automatic duplex units for both scanning and printing.

(The Epson AucLaser C1100N is still being used for colour laser printing.)

My small lists of printers (and other types of printers) I currently have:

That's a very large collection of printers!

OTOH, I just have three Samsung ML-1640 monochrome laser printers. If anyone is wondering 'What the hell do I need three of the same printer for?' the answer is quite simple. When I need a new toner it's cheaper for me to buy a whole new printer than to buy a new toner for the existing printer. It's just utterly insane.

We use the ML-1630 at work. The printer with a toner cartridge is $99 off Newegg, but the toner itself ranges from $69 to $89. That's actually tame compared to the Epson inkjet I had a few years back: the printer could be had for just $30, as could a black ink cartridge. A color cartridge cost more than the printer itself, and it wouldn't print even in black-and-white unless you had both cartridges installed.

Well, IT services saw fit to throw several full LaserJet 1100 cartridges onto the free/take-it pile, so I'll be set for a few more years. :)

That's unfortunately true in many quite a few cases.

However, there are laser printers that came with 'lite' (low capacity) toners. While the standard capacity or high capacity toner costs quite a fair bit (compared to the printer itself).

We have replaced entire colour sets of toners on the Epson AcuLaser C1100N printer about 3 or 4 times, and much more for the black toner, and used 3 photoconductors (known as drums in other brands). It's not cheap to print colour, but for us, it is still cheaper to replace toners and photoconductors than getting a whole new colour laser.

I bought a new mobile phone, and it's not an Apple iPhone.

It's an HTC Touch Pro2 (AT&T's Tilt2) for use as my secondary mobile phone. Don't worry, I am still using my old iPhone 3G as my primary phone.

There's nothing wrong with a Windows Mobile (or Windows phone).

Antony, why do you need more than one phone?

Well, 1) as a back up phone.
2) need to use different mobile network (much better coverage)
3) one extra device to play with in case I got bored.

Got a PlayStation 2. No, I'm not rich. I payed $5 for it at a garage sale. The optical drive wasn't reading disks when I got it, but after cleaning the lens of the laser and then adjusting some of the parts that control the movement of the laser mechanism, it worked. It looks like the system had been dropped from a considerable distance onto a hard surface. The front fascia (with PlayStation logo) of the drive tray is broken off and there is some damage (cracked plastic) inside the unit where the controllers plug into.
