CISS for your inkjet printer

Postby Antony » Wed 28 Mar, 2007 11:40 am

I just come across CISS (Continuous Ink Supply System) in a photography forum. It seems like many of them (photographers) do print a lot at home, and CISS is the way to save printing cost. I think it is safe to say that genuine inks (from the manufacturers) are expensive, and even genetic inks (from third party) is not really that cheap if you get the one with cartridges. Ink refills can make a mess.

It seems like that CISS is the solution for those who print colour a lot on inkjet. According to this web site, http://www.rihac.com.au/ , it seems like installing CISS on your inkjet is not that hard.

This is how CISS look like (image stolen from the website):

Take my case for example. If I buy one set of inks (6 colours) for my Epson R230 with the recommended price is AU$19.95 each, it ends up to be the same price as one CISS set (with 100 ml inks each), AU$120. That is definitely a huge saving if I print a lot (not counting the paper cost.)

I thought I would just mention CISS here in SillyDog701, and see if anyone is interested.

For the record, I strongly against using third party inks, unless the print out was not important for its quality, and you don't mind the mess in your printer.

I tried third party ink for my fax machine, which was fine for printing faxes, however, all sorts of printing from computer, especially colour is horrible. I also tried a third party toner for my Epson laser printer, luckily enough I only tried the black toner. The result was so bad, the toner simply leaks on the back side of the paper.

I now stick with genuine inks (and toners) for printing.
