Netscape 9 theme issues

Postby Somedude » Sun 24 Jun, 2007 6:53 pm

Okay, so I go and try to install RedShift v2. It says it's incompatible with Navigator. Then I went to install a different theme, and the same notice popped up. I did this three more times, same outcome. Is this because of the fact that it's still a beta or is it just Navigator in general?

So far, I have had excellent luck installing unusual addons and Themes in NS9b1, but I have had to use the nightly tester tools. I did well even with a very old version of the NTT.
I have installed it, and I hate it. It is necessary to drag and drop, at least one icon in View| Customize from the Navigator toolbar. Each icon to the left of the URL box is multiplied a dozen time. It is a good theme, if your eyes can stand it.

Thanks for the link; now most of my addons work in Gran Paradiso so I can use it again, but the problem with Netscape is that the themes won't install at all.

I don't know why. I have been using the NTT addon ( make sure that you place a check mark ay the bottom left of the wizard, before selecting to install). I did not have link to Red Shift 2, but I was able to install it. As I said, I did not like it, and have uninstalled it. I have also installed two Themes from the Skypilot site, and, I am using, now the Toy Factory Theme.
The NTT extention works with 1.04 which I had, as well as the new version.

Fulvio, could you give a more detailed description of "how" you use the nightly tester tools to make extensions and themes work in Nav 9? Thanks.

Did you understand what Somedude said? Will all Themes work I am not sure, because I never tried to install any extra Theme in FF2.0 as a comparison. I just tried the Red Sox theme, and it was Red Sox all right, but covering up part of the toolbars. But, on the other hand, even the Theme author said that the Theme would not look good using text.
So far, I had no problem installing, but that does not mean that things looked good. I am using the Firehawk theme in FF.

Right now, the only problem I'm encountering is that none of the themes can render the Mini-Browser, Report Bug, and Link Pad buttons on the toolbar, which might be why they won't install.

Since I, never, used any of those features, all Themes have been ok. I will have to take a look at that.
I did, and, wished I had not. After about 30 min. everything is back to normal. I tried the View|MiniBrowser and Linkpad, and they seemed to work. Except that the Linkpad cause the location bar to disappear. The Navigation toolbar was almost entirely Search. I tried the default theme, and restarting, of course, and had the same results. Then, I looked in View|Toolbars|Customize, and I found the Location bar, which I dragged and dropped in fron to the maxi-search. Everything was back to normal. Since I consider those gimmicks, I will ignore them. The bug report was hiding where the location bar was. So everything is under control.

You know what, folks? I was so taken with the slim clean look of NS 9 beta in its native theme that I went back to the default theme for FF.

This is now a couple of weeks and I am not unhappy.
