Config IE Tab & NS7.2

Postby jpChris » Sun 24 Jun, 2007 3:47 pm

Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out how to get the IE Tab to work with NS7.2. I installed the plug-in in SeaMonkey and it works GREAT!

However, when I tried to do the same thing with NS, it (npietab.dll) shows up in the plug-ins folder (NS & SM) and "About Plug-ins" but it doesn't work.

From an earlier post I read to install: extuninstaller.xpi, and extuninstallapi.xpi.

I did: and now under "Tools" it shows "Extension Manager". The problem I'm having is how to configure it to work with NS.

When I open "Extension Manager" and click on "IE Tab 1.3.1" and Settings, where do I go from there to configure it?

Thanks,
Chris

I can't help you with IE TAb. I just don't have 7.2, and may be IE Tab is not completely compatible with it. My Seamonkey has Tools|IE Tab Options. And, the extention uninstallet should have IE Tab listed, if compatible. You should not click on th Extention Uninstaller, unless you want to remove the exention. My Seamonkey does not have an extention manager, but rather an uninstaller (I know, that there are a lot of managers in Tools, but not Extention Manager). IE Tab Options should be right above Extention Uninstaller

Hi Fulvio,

Thanks for getting back to me. Is there someone whom can help me?

As far as SeaMonkey goes, in the extreme lower right-hand corner next to the Online Status and the Security icons is an icon for IE switching. That's what I'm trying to do with NS.

Could adding a new (String\Integer\Boolean) line to About:Config, or prefs.js in NS do the trick?

Even though I use SeaMonkey quite often, I'm still drawn to NS.

Chris,
in addition to the icon which you mention, and never use, my Seamonkey1.1.2 has a button in the Navigation bar to the right of the URL space, and also, Tools|IE Tab options.
I, always, use one of those. If you don't have none, the extention may not be fully compatible. I did a search, and have not found anything which would be helpful. Someone, at mozillazine.org, appealed to make the extention work in NS7.2, but no reply.
I would not know how to deal with the preferences, etc. It must be an internal thing (in the extention).

Chris,

When I was using Netscape 7.2 (it's been a while) I recall using both IE Tab and the closely-related IE View.

If the newer versions of IE Tab (or IE View) don't work, you might try some of the older versions that are available here:

jpChris-

I see that you are a Senior Member here at SillyDog, so you have been around the block a few times.

This motivates me to ask why you are still using NS 7.2, when it is naught but re-packaged Mozilla. You say that you are using SeaMonkey, which always to me looks and acts like Netscape from its glory days.

So, why the lust for 7.2?

Hi Richard,

You wrote: "This motivates me to ask why you are still using NS 7.2 . . . "?

For the same reason a dog likes chewing on an old shoe instead of a new one (at least mine does :P)

Maybe if I could replace the SeaMonkey "throbber" (that IS what the animated doohickey [I believe that's the technical term for it] in the upper right-hand corner is called: Right???) with the Netscape throbber, I'd be happy.

Is there a way to change the SM throbber with the NS one?

Chris-I don't know, I dislike throbbers.

When I was using Netscape 8, I was using Modern Modiki theme, and they did one FOR ME with no throbber.

Seriously, I don't know if it was really done for me originally, but I did get it done a couple of times as new iterations of 8.X came out.

Chris-

Whoops, a little faulty memory.

What I disliked was that they had placed the throbber in the upper left corner, where I was used to an X to shut down the program. Now, I had to right click to get the Close button.

They moved the throbber to the right side and gave me back my X.

I never look at throbbers, and they can be changed, in Firefox,at least, when you get a different Theme. My fox has turned into a bird, with the Firefhawke Theme. Amazing!.
I am too lazy to read, but this may give some clues.
