Error on Dragon Naturally Speaking 8.0

Postby Ron » Fri 21 Sep, 2007 11:27 pm

:( I have used Dragon for a couple years with no problem. After an error message: The vocabulary you have chosen "General-Large" is incompatible or invalid, I uninstalled and reinstalled the software. I then created a new user file and it worked for a week or so. I then got the error again so I created a new user file. This worked for awhile and now both User files give the same error. I tire of training a new user file every week or so. Can you help mate?
Desperate, Ron

Hello Ron,

Welcome to SillyDog701 Message Centre. I hope you can enjoy your stay here.

Personally, I don't have Dragon Naturally Speaking. However, I found following answers that might assist you.

mmarkoe (in voicerecognition.com wrote:It sounds like you had a corrupted user profile. This is not happening frequently in version 8 but was common in previous versions. It was especially common when people were using the acoustic optimizer to "improve" their user training profile accuracy. We have never used the acoustic optimizer and have never had a corrupted user profile. Whether this is coincidental or not I am not sure, but suspect it is related. There are other reasons for a user file to get corrupted. Often this happens when closing Dragon and there is a problem with the system where it must be shut down.

[quote="Lunis Orcutt"]‘General-Large’ is incompatible typically means that your vocabulary has become corrupted and since this is occurring quite often, you might want to try to track down the underlying cause. Larry's recommendation about running System Restore is one possible cause (assuming you are running it every 10 days or so). You have a couple of possible solutions to this problem if you are unable to track down the source:

1. You could switch to your back up user files which have an 80% chance of not being contaminated. This will save you having to create a new user. If you are unfamiliar with the process you'll find a step-by-step by looking up "Switching to Backup User Files" in our Quick Tips

2. Consider storing your user files somewhere else such as a thumb drive. You'll find a step-by-step on this process by looking up “thumbâ€
