Hi there,

I am getting the same thing. Appears to be something to do with the pop up blocker.

The script says <menuitem id="menu_HelpPopup_reportertoolmenu"----^

No icon is being displayed for blocked pop ups in the status bar as before so I think it is an error with this.

Don't know how to fix it...though have sent feedback to Netscape.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks...

Bar at bottom of screen...

Postby gdnctr » Sat 13 Oct, 2007 9:40 am

I'm getting the same bar at the bottom of the screen, on both the office and home machines.

I've got a screen grab, but just joined today, and am "feeling my way around" and don't know how to post it, yet. Can pics even be posted here?

I just finished installing th RC on three computers. I wanted to get rid of the Weather Bug thing, so I did it in Tools|Add-ons. On two computers it went away immediately. On the thrid computer, I could not get rid of it. I tried three times.

Any ideas?

right-click the green exclamation point button. uncheck display box. then place it on the bookmarks toolbar, and hide that toolbar. i never use it anyway.

uninstall it completely in add/remove programs, in control panel. go to netscape's
d/ld site, and get a clean copy, and install it. that'll fix it.

Weird Bar menuitem id="menu_HelpPopup_reportertoolmenu&

Postby tennesseeland » Sat 13 Oct, 2007 3:03 pm

I have the "weird bar" as well, I'm not very computer savvy. You say uninstall "it", uninstall what exactly??? all of Netscape 9 or just the update??? , I hope not Netscape 9 as I only have slow dial up & would take forever, either way where/how/what do I look into my computer to find to delete "it" and where exactly do I go to download what I need, do you have a link to go to on the internet to find the "clean" download of ??? you are referring to, not sure what d/id means. I'm sorry to be such a pain, I need more basic info first to even to know how to proceed.

You need to go to the Control Panel in Windows, there is a direct link from your Start menu, click on the Add or Remove Programs icon and then scroll down the list of installed programs till you find Netscape Navigator (9.0RC1). Click on the words and a remove button will appear to the right. Click on this button to uninstall the program. It will remove Navigator but not delete your "profile" i.e, your bookmarks and browser history etc. The file to download Netscape again isn't too big, about 5Mbs. This is the direct link you need -

download

just click on the link and it should ask you where to save it, I would recommend your desktop so you can find it easily. Then it is just a case of going through the install screens and everything should be fine when you start it up again.

Hope that helps...

Weird Bar

Postby tennesseeland » Sat 13 Oct, 2007 5:18 pm

Thanks, "sounds" simple, I'll try it, but still a pain in the___, any idea why this happened, had I known all this I'd never installed it. Will it pick up my old "profile" automatically or do I have to manually do something?
Another issue, I have Netscape 7.2 & 8 still in my computer, but Netscape 9 is my default, however it doesn't always come up, it reverts to Netscape 7.2 sometimes and then asks if I want it to be my default and I always chose no. Such as a few minutes ago I received the automated email that you had responded to my post and it gave me the link to go to in the email, I clicked on that link and instead of using Netscape 9 that I had already opened up and using it, it automatically opened Netscape 7.2...

Weird Bar

And while I'm at it asking questions, I use Netscape email system, why is it in a lot of places I will click on a link to email a person something and it takes me to Internet Explorer to email someone something and I have never used Internet Explorer and don't even have it setup to use and so I can't email them at all???

The reason for the error is I think, like me, you already had a version of Netscape 9.0 installed. It appears to run fine if you are upgrading say from version 8.0 but because this version of 9.0 has a little extra weather bar added to the bottom, it is causing problems. If you don't want this feature check elsewhere in the post for tips on how to remove this too. Is quite easy to do.

The reinstall should pick up your existing version 9.0 profile as this remains untouched after the uninstall. I had no problems with mine but as a precaution do a copy of the folder just in case. It should be located on your C drive under Documents and Settings. Find your profile in the sub directory...should have your first name as the title. Then click on the Application Data folder. Look for the Netscape directory...this is where your profile is located. Do a right click and copy this folder to your desktop. You then have a backup just in case. If all goes well with the reinstall you can then delete this copy from your desktop.

With regard to the other versions you can probably delete 8.0 ok using the add and remove process I mentioned before as this is a standalone browser and won't affect e-mail settings or your main 9.0 profile. With 7.2 I would be more careful. By the sounds of things you are using this for your e-mail package. Although you probably keep telling Navigator 9.0 to be your default browser, everytime you open an e-mail in 7.2 it is going to the 7.2 browser by default. The only way I would say you can get around this is to upgrade your e-mail software. Although Navigator 9.0 is browser only plans are under way to add an improved e-mail client called Mercury. It will be a case of watch-this-space and is still very early on in the development process. In the mean time I would suggest Thunderbird which is the e-mail sister program to Mozilla's Firefox. It is very good and would upgrade your e-mail package safely and easily. You can download it from here -

download

and it will actively look for all your e-mail settings, messages and address book details while installing itself. I use it myself and can recommend it. If the installation goes ok you can then delete all of the Netscape 7.2 program as you will now have e-mail with Thunderbird and your Netscape version 9.0 browser. These are the packages I use and if you click on an e-mail link from Thunderbird it should open up Netscape 9.0 ok...providing you make both of them your default packages.

Finally, with regard to Internet Explorer etc and going to Outlook Express to e-mail something through a link. This often occurs when default settings are not quite setup correctly. Apart from what I have suggested above I would say go to Control Panel again. Look for the Internet Options icon...click on this and this will configure options for Internet Explorer etc. Go to the Programs tab and select E-mail as Netscape 7.2 or Thunderbird if you install it. This will then mean that whenever you click on an e-mail link in Explorer or even Netscape your preferred e-mail program should open up.

As with anything PC it is a bit trial and error but this should work for you as I have the same settings on mine.

If you're still having problems then just post again and I will have a look for you.

Sorry for the long post but I hope the info helps...Best of luck!!!

That large grey area at the bottom of the browser that appeared after the auto-update has nothing to do with an extension or WeatherBug but rather a piece of code was inadvertently left out when porting over the Firefox 2.0.0.7 source. Just an oversight at best. It's fixed now and will work properly when 9.0 is released very shortly.

Hey, all. New to the forums here. I've been using/beta testing Firefox for a very long time. Just thought I'd share my experience with 9.0RC1. Haven't used Netscape in years. Thought I'd give the RC a go. Very pleased. Quick and stable in my case on Vista Home Premium. A lot of themes from AMO work perfectly as do a load of extensions. Here's my RC1 using the Crystal Lite 0.9 theme:
