1997, Michael Dell: Steve Jobs should've shut down Apple

Postby Antony » Tue 09 Oct, 2007 8:31 pm

Ten years ago, Steve Jobs became interim CEO of then Apple Computer Inc. (now Apple Inc.), he was brought back to Apple in 1996 when Apple bought NeXT.

Dell CEO Michael Dell made an infamous comment about Apple on 6th October, 1997. Dell was publicly asked what he'd do with then recently returned Steve to Apple if given the opportunity. "I'd shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders."

Despite a few former SillyDog701 [sdt=12920]members[/sdt] hate Dell, Dell had a very huge market share back then.

Ten years later, Apple's market cap is more than twice of Dell's. (Apple: US$144B valuation; Dell: $62B) Recent rumour says Apple is likely to surpass Intel's US$149B and IBM's US$160B cap.
