can't remove remote device

Postby hillel » Sun 07 Oct, 2007 5:10 pm

I'm using an 80gb harddrive to keep all my iTunes files on, so when I play music, it's always coming from this remote device. It works well and gives me a lot of room on my computer's harddrive.

the problem comes when I want to move my computer somewhere, so I want to quit iTunes and remove the harddrive. About half the time I get a message telling me that "this disk is in use and cannot be removed - quit all open files and try again" - not a direct quote, but that's the idea. Well, no matter what I do, including shutting down every single program which is running, I can't drag the image to the trash to dismount it. Disk Utilities, as far as I understand it, doesn't help either. SO I just turn the damn thing off - and get that message telling me the device has been removed improperly and could damage the contents. It hasn't damaged anything so far, but I really don't want to lose all the files on the drive.

any ideas for solving this problem?

thanks!

Make sure iTunes is quit completely (:cmd: + Q). If still not work, try making sure no Finder windows are open and Preview is quit.

Otherwise, you can shut down the Mac, which is the last option.

I wish I had better solution for you.
